hey all! so as a few of you may read, my fuel sender appears to be dodgy, giving me an inaccurate reading.. i've heard the tank needs to come out for this.. is it really a prick of a job?
how much should i be looking at spending at fixing this? note, it's on factory gas aswell.. so does that mean that there would be 2 senders?
how much would your average mechanic charge to do something like this?
i'd rather do it myself if possible though!
thanks, andy
The fuel gauge and fuel pump are all in the one assembly and the tank has to be removed to get it out as it goes in the top of the tank.
You'd haver to check if the sender is available as a seperate part otherwise you'd have to buy the whole unit.
It wouldn't take that long to get the tank out, you would be best doing it with the tank as empty as possible and the only real issue I could see is getting the fuel hoses off as they can be tricky and get broken if you are not sure what your doing and for example try to use a screw driver on them.
Sender, pump and in tank filter are available as separate units. quick connect fuel line fittings are used for all fuel line connections. Push, squeeze, pull. If you hold your mouth right! By the way, if you manage to damage the tank, it is not serviceable, replacement tank needed. Advice from Holden is that you should use a brush and compressed air to remove any accumulated rubbish from the area around any fuel connection so as not to contaminate your fuel lines. Really bad for injectors.
sounds alot easier with a hoist... possibly it should be a mechanic jibby..
any ideas on cost?
thanks mate, andy
$400 i was told same prob on my wh
thanks for the heads up guys!
i'm assuming the lpg has a different sender then the ulp?
i *think* both are faulty, although after thought, it leads me more to thinking the gauge is at fault!
thanks
After having read some of the relevant posts on "Just.commodores", I am convinced that inaccurate fuel guages are standard equipment on the VTs. Even the VZs have the problem. My daughter has a VZ which, on a trip back from Queensland, told her she had less than 50ks to go. On filling up at the next servo, the thing took 42 litres to fill! There was still 33 litres in the tank! More like 400ks to go.
Yeah, I've read that too!
Although.. do we know the cause of this problem?
It's irritating the shit out of me!! I want it fixed!!
VT owner here , my gauge lies all the time , hardly ever under half a tank in her anyway so dont worry me
At 43 a wealth of info , but still heaps to learn
Yes, it is very annoying. I've run out of fuel a few times now when I allegedly had 140 kms or more to go

MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
there is a post on here that goes in to recalibrating your fuel sender/fuel guage. Want to give it a go? Manual fuel calibration for vt vx finally revealed for cars with 1 window dash Might help. Let us know if it does.
thanks graham! tried it..
doesn't work!
after playing with the settings, it rendered my car unstartable! so earth off the battery for 20mins to reset everything..
gauge is still out!
i've got a cluster on the way! i'm assuming it will be fixed when drbob calibrates it for me!
if not, tank out, new sender!
couldnt be bothered!!
thanks
are your needles accurate though? or is it just the till empty display that's out?
yeah still shows above empty probably gauge calibration error i think there was an update for the dash at one stage
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
Andy, my bad but talk to the guy who put the original post up, he might be able to help you. Failing that, talk to a Holden man with a tech2 in his hand and he will tell you exactly what is wrong.
Yeah, I'm arranging a time with drbob! I'll get him to calibrate it all correctly! Thanks for the heads up..
I can hold off for a bit, just you know how it is!!
Thanks
Forget it its like tryin to get a headjob out of a hooker for free!!!!!!! live with it
At 43 a wealth of info , but still heaps to learn
Haha! I don't let things get the better of me though! If I want a free headjob off a hooker, i'll get one!!
All in time![]()
Me and my dad got the thing out, the fuel sender does come as a separate unit and if I remember rightly, the fuel pipes are long enough to just take the assembly off of the fuel tank and replace the sender unit without disconnecting any fuel lines. The fuel gauge worked fine after that.
I never understood the sales of the Kia on the Holden lots here in NZ. I couldnt think of any cars that could be so different.
