Default Running hot after lim change..............

Hi everyone I Need help!!. Changed the lim gaskets, thermostat (82 deg c), and various hoses, and o'rings etc. Bled the system properly after all that was done and coolant was added of course. On my first run out the temp was going from 80 to 85 , all good, But on my second run out in now fluctuates between 98 and 104 deg c until the fan cuts in, and its now seems to be the norm after a few more drives from cold. Car is a Vx l67 .
Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong ??

did you have the heater on when bleeding the cooling system? if you didnt you would have an airlock,
also, check the hose on the thermostat housing. make sure it isnt split cos they do split easily when the motor gets an airlock

Yeah I had the heater on max all through filling and bleeding, also checked the hose on thermo housing seems to be ok.

did you have a piece of hose in the radiator cap housing so the coolant could get higher than the top bleeder?

thats about the only way ive ever got them to bleed up properly with no air locks

I used the old 1.25 litre soft drink bottle cut in half and placed in top first to bleed, it fits nice and snug.

check ur coolant level...i did mine recently also and the same thing happened but over time coolant dropped about a litre filled it back up and its been sweet since...my guess was air lock somewhere even though i bled it spot on the same as u.

Only a guess but are you sure all the vacuum hoses, pcv and purge are back on and not leaking/secure? Sounds from your description like your motor is running a little lean. Which will cause overheating. On top of cooling system problems.

Sounds like normal operation to me.

When it hits 104 does the second fan kick in?

I run a switch that allows me to kick the second fan in at 98degrees so I dont suffer as much heat soak, will hook it up to a thermo switch soon to stop me having to do it manually. No biggy though as its second nature just like a manual car regarding switching on and off at the correct times. It will run all the way down to 80degrees if left on too long and thats not to good for an engines efficiency/life.

End of the day, give it another bleed but it seems like normal operation. With good coolant boiling is not until 112degrees+.

Anymore Q's PM me if you like.

when it hits 104 deg c the first fan cuts in, second fan is still off. then in cools back down to 98. Just was worried becauce before changing Lim etc, you could idle for ages and the fan would never cut in and the temp would be vary between 91 - 96 deg c. strange. cheers.

Just an update, took my car for a good highway cruise at a steady 100kph. The temp sat between 82-84 , so all good there , and then whilst idling for extended period it goes up to 104 then fan kicks in to take in down to 98, if i drive off around suburban streets without many stops it will come back down to low 80's. So as was suggested this seems to be normal. So all good . One of those strange things i guess where before it wouldnt get above 96 and fan would never kick in. thats why i was freaking out. Thanks for the help
