    Default highway transmission maybe?

    hey guys,
got a bit of a problem, recently my engine light came on while driving along the highway at around 100-110 kms and at the same time the revs jumped up 300 - 500rpm. As you would i shat myself so i pulled over, turned it off, opened the bonnet for any leaks etc, found nothing. turned it back on and it was back to normal and as i was on the way up to schoolies i had to push on, luckily i had no more dramas.

then the exact same thing happened again going at around 110 kms so i did the same thing and it was fine, and then a week later again on the way back as i was back on the highway

it only seems to happen when driving at that speed for over half an hour or so

    any suggestions?

    cheers

time to stop doing 110 km/h fr half an hour?

service it yourself and if the problems stays you should get it checked out. Might need to get it swapped over. It might not be the transmision at all though

    Hi dylanstone,

My 99 VT Acclaim does the same thing. You'd be doing 100 kmh @ 2000rpm then all of a sudden the revs go to 2500-2700 sometimes 3000 - then when you turn off the car and start it again it goes away! I just had a major service yesterday and asked the guys to check for errors. As I expected it came up with Error 85 which is Transmission Slipping! All in all, it does it every now and then and when it does, as long as you don't spank it, you'll get where you need to go but really, best thing to do will be take it to a Transmission Service Centre. I'm due for another visit (had a tranny service 15k kmh ago) and I will outline what its doing. I did ring them and they said it could be a solenoid which from what I gather is what switches the gears (I could be wrong, Im no mechanic)

So yes, same thing happens to my car. Don't spank it when it does it, take it to a service centre soon and you should be right. Maybe do an error check (heaps of threads on it) and see if 85 pops up.

hey yeh thanks guys for the reply's,

its had a tranny check and service about 2000 k's ago and they said it was fine, and it was because it wasnt doing this.

mbvp73 - thanks for the reply i will get it into a tranny service center asap, i dont spank it anyway, on the highway i managed to turn it off at 100 kms/h and back on again lol, stupid but it worked

    cheers

Trans service and add some lube guard can't go astray. Maybe a shift solenoid but not very likely, possibly something electrical like the TPS? Or the clutches/bands are getting worn.
