Hey all,
As some of you may remember I've recently fitted a set of super low kings springs to my SS.
Since fitting them I've noticed that there is a rubbing coming from the front wheels whenever I do a sharp turn in either direction.
I know this is common in lowered cars, but I'm just wondering, is there a common place that rubs for VT's?
I can't see that it's rubbing on the outside because there's no wear against the tyre, so I can only assume it's rubbing on the inner guard somewhere.
Any ideas?
Thankyou!
front of the tyre hits the middle of the gaurd,
what size tyre do u have?
mine hit with 245-45-18 with ssl
middle of the gaurd meaning the outer gaurd at the top ?
or inner gaurd in the middle ?
I think I have 235/45/R17
ha should of said it a bit beter but, the front of the gaurd in the middle.
easy way, turn the wheel to full lock one way and have a look
cool man, thanks for the advice, I'll check it out!
Just found the spot.
It's the front plastic guard that sits between the front of the car and the tyre.
Looks like it's rubbing the middle there.
Plenty of clearance on the guards themselves.
Anyone got a cure for that?
Is it a case of remoulding with a heat gun?
Or just cutting it out or what's the best choice?
Cheers!
try maybe a smaller tyre?
mine were 245-45 but 18's and did it but they were the wrong size for the car
then swaped to the right one 235-40 and it was all good
mmm would give that a go, but don't want to be throwing money at tyres just yet.
Will look into it when they're due for a change over though.
Thought maybe I could remould the plastic with a heat gun or something, or just remove it/cut it out.
Would prefer to keep it though.
If its not severely rubbing.. let it make its own mould till it stop rubbing.. and when it comes time to sell... just replace the plastic moulding... probably sounds dodgy.. but it wont rub away forever
are you able to push it back with ur hand?
maybe a screw or some thing it and then pull it back by mounting it to some thing else?
mine did that. I 'Rolled my guards' Basically heat up the panel and get a mallet and pull the gaurds out so you have more clearence and when it comes time for new tyres get differant size profiles, My 17" old clubsport wheels used to scrub when going up driveways on angles etc but now i have 18" vy ss wheels and there is no scrubbing at all. The rolling of the gaurds did help it not to scrub as much. Just take your time and hit it gently and you should use a rag and dolly
Cheers for all the help!
Will probably borrow a heat fun off of someone I know soon to do these.
Here's a pick of one of the sides where it's rubbing.
If you look very closely inside the wheel arch, you can see a slightly darker patch on the plastic guard, that's where she's rubbing.
I got hold of a heat gun tonight and it seems the results are good.
Heated the panels, pushed them in a bit more toward the front, doesn't look like they moved much, but it seems to have been enough to get it off of the tyres.
The passenger side appears to have a VERY faint rub against it from time to time if cornering very hard, but all in all, very happy with it, MUCH better than hearing it rub before.
Feels like it's freed it up a little, steering wise. Although that could be psychological :P
