the problem with LED's is the closer they are to the rear of the dash facia the worse the hot spot they're like a torch with a focused beam

i don't how you did them, but if you can move them away from the dash the better light distribution you'll get and more even it will be

Thats right plus anything that just replaces the single globe where it b a 3 or 5 chip LED (including ebay jobs) it simply wont work coz u can get the even spread of light. have a read through the LED conversion thread plenty of info there.

i guess the hint here is the more LEDs u use the better the light spread (veiwing angle) will b.

I don't think you can completely get an even spread of light when doing the blue LED conversion. Ive done it myself and I couldn't really get rid of the hotspots, and most people ive seen that has done it all have hotspots. However you can do things to spead the light more evenly.

What I did is that I sanded down the top of the LED so that the round top is flat, making the light distribute more evenly over the cluster.
Also positioning of the LEDs is also very important, if your putting the LEDS really far into the holes where the globes go, you will have worse hotspots, and light will not reach everywhere in the cluster.
Try to get the LED into the exact same location of where the globe would go.
Also the size and brightness of the LEDs will matter as well.
    I used 7000mcd 5mm LEDS I think.

Scrapping off the green film will help eliminate the hot-spots. If the LEDs have to penetrate the film it won't come out as good.

I suppose if you want a perfect spread of light its just a lot of time and effort. And a lot of frustration.
Kudos for wrx for doing it perfectly, I didn't even have the patience for the lighting controls.

After doing the blue led conversion on my vp lvl3 cluster I couldnt stand the hot spots and the fact that the red wasnt red and the needles where hard to see so I had a custom fascia made and went back to white globes. I used Sam at speed graphics off ebay and couldnt be happier all the colours are as they should be no hot spots and from memory it cost about 50 bucks for the fascia and about 45 mins to pull the cluster apart and fit the screen. I then later got a mate who is a boat builder to make me a carbon plate to go in the cluster as well.

I can vouch 4 Sam also i got him a couple years ago 2 do the same thing 4 my VP coz u cant remove the green on the facais unlike the VT/VX's u can, made up the dial facia, auto shifter facia, aswell as the 2 switch block symbols. but instead i still prefered LEDs 4 a few reasons. They run cooler, use way less power, can cope with bumps and knocks so no easy blown globes and u can then modify ur needles and change them 2 any colour u wish rather then the boring dull orange. Pretty much used the same method as wat we do with the VT's.

    Default Need more leds

Can someone please give me a link on more leds being installed in the cluster

I can't find any links that adress this issue

Also how do i go on changing the ring around the key to a blue led

Also has anyone got more info on changing the stock cd player to blue leds

I have read alot of these threads but no one ever mentions SMD LED????
    Do you never use them??
There meant to be more bright and use less power than normal leds.....

doing the ignition ring is the easiest

under the ignition barrel is a hole just push the rubber ring out, get one of those t5 led with a built in resistor on you're done

this is as much info as i can give u but this will b ur best friend.

    LED series parallel array wizard

Theres nothing wrong with SMD LEDs it just depends if u want/need 2 use them and 4 wat purpose? So u can use them, but u can also use the other LEDs aswell. Certain places u cant use the SMD LEDs so u'll need 2 use the others aswell.

All LEDs use the same power if they r 12v LEDs, how much power u use and put out depends all on wat resistors u use.
