    Default Power Steering

    Hey guys,

Just a question about power steering in my VT. I think it might be on it's last legs, in that when parking I have virtually no power steering to speak of, and when driving whilst I do have it, it's not as good and is accompanied by a whine sound.

Any idea what part of the system this is and likely repair cost?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mike.

Yeah I have to check the fluid regularly because it leaks a little bit (common fault I'm told), it's fine, so pump you reckon?

No need to bleed as the Power streering is an open system(self purging...) most of the time.

Pump is probably shot... Easy to replcae and quick fix - VS,VT,VX,VY -WH & WK FULL RECO POWER STEER PUMP

Could also be the rack as well... Not that easy to replace, a little pricey and will need a wheel alignment after - VT Ser (II),VX,VU & CV8 POWER STEER RACK (Complete)

Just an idea of prices... Good luck

Thanks mate, it is getting serviced soon, that will be on the list. In the meantime I will pray to the gods of Holden it's not the rack, I'm still hoping it's not.

Well the only noise is the whine sound. Sounds like everyone is thinking the pump, which is what I was leaning too, but I wasn't sure.

Well we were right, twas the pump, part cost $104. Just had it replaced as part of the service, and labour wasn't much higher than normal. So all in all good I think. And my god, it's magical, power steering, most underrated part ever.

The $104 was for the new power steering pump. The cost of the labour was just added to the service.
