Hi all..Just joined up but have been checking out this site for a while getting ideas and whatnot. Seems i have a problem now and i am unable to find any info anywhere.
I have a 98 vt acclaim, Interior fan has stopped working on speeds 1 thru 4. Thing is, i cannot find a fuse problem..any help would be appreciated, although it will be going for a service in a few weeks at repco.
Fan speed resistor perhaps???
cheers...Great site too,
p.s....how safe is it donating..sorry, just not with internet banking and stuff. but we have paypal
Welcome to the forum.
The fuse or relay will be marked "Blower" in case you didn't know. If if that is not the problem then it is most likely likely to be the fan speed resistor of the fan motor.
I had no problems donating, it helps to keep the forums going.
Good luck. I don't know if they have pay pal. Go to make a donation and check out the options.
Edit. I just checked and they use paypal
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
Cheers....Relays are the black square buggers right?
how do i test them?
only works on highest setting?
= fan speed resistor
the wiring is set up though so on high its full power
on all other settings it goes through one "variable" resistor (different amounts of power put out from resistor all less than full power)
on pulling resistor out there is a "tab" of metal on it this will be lifted from where it is soldered ( from memory)
if it doesnt work on top speed and you have swapped the relays over with no luck then it is most likely the fan motor itself. with hot weather and lots of use as well as age the windings burn out. it is an easyjob to replace thought if you are half ok with tools. its located under the passengers footwell. i think you have to remove a few covers then the fan with a few bolts. funnily mine went in my vt exactly this time last year. cost me about $50 for a second hand fan/ blower from a wrecker. i hope this all helps
Hi...well checked relays under steer wheel, 'blower relar' and 'blower inhibit relay'.
assuming the rear window demist relay is ok. they are ok.
Under bonnet, fuse marked 'blower f/l ' is ok.
missus taking car now, so will check fan motor this arvo.
cheer all.
if only works on high +1fan speed resistor (again)
nah...fan speed not working at all, anyway, the vn chucked a wobbly so attention is on that for now, vt will goto repco during the week and they can deal with it
thanks all
To test the relay you can test for continuity on the coil side and listen for a click in the relay when you turn the fan on.

now you mention it ricey, there is a 'click' when fans speed is turned to 4...although nothing works...what does this mean?
If you mean a click from the relay it means the relay is probably ok and problem is between relay and blower motor or the motor itself.

you are on to it ricey, Repco autorepairs are telling me that when tonkins installed a stereo about 2 year ago...they have done a but of a dodgy job
