Just wondering what kind of exhaust system would be the best for a 98 VT Acclaim because I'm looking to get rid of my stock one and get a new one.
What kind of ones should i be looking for? Help is greatly appreciated (:
ive got a vx with a cheapie redback cat-back system. str120 i think, the one without the rear resonator. Not the best note still decent though, was cheap and took about 5 minutes to install after the car was on ramps
Head down to supercheap and get a Lukey cat back
Stolen from another thread:
$120 for the cat and center muffler section
PART # AL5-5712
$40 for the tail pipe section (no rear muffler)
PART # T5713
Also if you want extractors check out the ones on ebay for $330, free delivery. Ill be getting them sooner or later too when I get around to it.
Apart from that a tip and tats the whole system done.
You can bolt on the cat back your self, extractors Id expect to pay anywhere from $150-200+ to have fitted at a exhaust shop.
Just for comparison sake.
I've been doing a bit of ringing around etc for quotes for a full system for a 5.0L V8.
I've been quoted $2950, $2600 and another $2600 ish.
Systems have been pacemaker headers, high flow cats and twin cat backs in mild steel.
I was pretty shocked by the prices of these, but seems to be the norm so far.
Still got some more ringing around to do though.
Just got another quote back, just under 2k for apparently a full xforce system in stainless steel.
Anyone know if these are any good? Or is it worth spending the extra $$ to get a pacemaker system?
Pacemaker is one kagillion times better and only $300 more.
I cant find a pacemaker system for my car online, but I've had quotes from local workshops for the pacemakers.
You dont have anyone that you can recommend that does these online ? or are you talking about a local workshop also?
i could only find these on ebay: PACEMAKER HEADERS COMMODORE VN VP VR VS 5L V8 DUAL CAT (eBay item 310230750114 end time 27-Jan-11 13:05:46 AEDST) : Cars, Bikes, Boats . couldnt find 1s for vt anywhere an no cat back either.
Take it easy...But do take it...
Do not argue with an IDIOT.
He will just drag you down to his level an beat you with experience.
Some people take me the wrong way, Like smacking up Marijunna.
I would think any VT - VZ cat back will fit.
was quoted from a local workshop
pacemaker headers at $1100
high flow cats x2 at $800
cat back $200
including fitting for all the above totals at 2.6k
I could probably do it myself with my bro, but would need it all to basically bolt up nice and simple, and I need to get hold of some rubber exhaust mounts as I have about 2 remaining on my car, so the current pipes are swinging and banging around.
i got my pacemakers tri ys off ebay for my ls1 for $600 an pacemaker 100cpsi bolt up cats for $220 each.
EDIT: i also got a cheap supercat catback in mild steel for like $300 no rear res.

people pay $2-$3k for a full exhaust? wtf?
i rememeber a mate of mine paid $1k for a VT SS LS1 system from liverpool exhaust...
Sorry for vagueness originally, It's a 3.8L V6
Looking more for sound rather than performance
So what I've got at the moment is the original exhaust that came with the car when my parents first bought it, so what I'm looking for is options whether I need everything you guys have been mentioning,
If I'm still missing any details needed out just say and I'll get them down
put a redback cat back with twin outlet rear muffler on my v6 vt calais. cost me $450 fitted. nice note but not too loud
