Default Future Project, let me know what you think :D

ok guys my plan here is when i get another car (im on my L's atm :P) im thinkng about turning my VT commodore into a
project car, so strip it down rebuild it and build loads of mods into it
instead of buying a V8 and dropping it in, coz V6's can rev higher and
when tuned right they will piss all over a V8 :P
heres what ive got in mind
(i know im getting ahead of myself but just trying to get an opinion on it all cheers)

Rockers : 1.98:1 ultra high ratio roller rockers
    Throttle Body: 70mm Bored/Polished
Cam : Stage 1 COMP Cam
Forced Induction : Rapter Supercharger Kit
    Heads: MACE Aluminium heads
Stroker Kit : MACE Stroker Kit 2
Memcal : Tuned Memcal from MACE

let me know what ya think (alotta moneey in it but im already putting money aside for it )

I'll put that comment down to lack of knowledge and it being school holidays.

You could spend half that on an LS1 with a decent cam and come out on top.

Another young bloke trying to think he is faster then everyone else lol.
It's up to you dude, if you want to spend thousands or actually from what you want to get, tens of thousands of dollars, you could go and buy a VY SS - VZ SS by the time you get off your P Plates. Or you could waste that money then when you get sick of your car and go to a V8 then do it all over again.

V8s can rev the same if not harder then a V6 by the way.

    Jim

i bet them mods sound good at school when telling your mates, but really what a waste of time and money, v8's rev the same, and would trust a LS1 revving high over a ecotech, spend all that money on a 6 then a LS1 comes by with just a simple tune and makes your 6 look stupid

I will add no offence to this young bloke wanting to have a go, but it's people like this that become a statistic. A V6 Commodore is plenty of power for a person who is learning, you are on your L Plates and you are already trying to work out how to go around racing V8s? Sounds like you shouldn't be allowed to even have your L Plates. When I was on my L Plates I was too busy concentrating on wanting to get my Ps so I could just go driving.
I hope it all works out for you mate and good luck, but please be safe and don't do anything stupid, cars aren't as bullet proof as you think, one thing wrong and you could end up in a bad way and if not worse and think about others on the road. All the best.

Been there and done that with my 3 series. Spent more on the car, and crashed it within 2 years. The cops said any 'lesser' of a car and they'd be scraping my body off the highway. I know the feeling of having this much power, but it is still an illusion of 'being in control' of a car. Just learn how to drive safely and be on the defensive, earn your experiences on the road under all weather conditions before taking on more horsepower.

lol i agree a llittle soop but dont crush his dreams....

anyway you grunters~! v6's do rev quicker due to less mass
thats why they are used in top speed records all the time.......
but yes if you spend ten thou on a vt v6 and ten thou on a vt v8 i know which one will win......
but lets face it on p-plates? dad isnt a magistrate? go the v6 then~!

Wow, there are some very angry people on this forum. As for your idea, if you're serious about a long term project and
are prepared to persevere with the ecotec idea, think simple. Don't worry about all the bolt ons, bare bones should be
strengthen internals, increased cubes, forced induction(go for twin turbos if you are serious) and a very good tune, without
the very best of tunes your 6 would be destroyed by the most average of performance cars.

High ratio rockers arent needed with a good cam but roller rockers wont hurt.
Throttle body is neither here or there, the factory TB can handle a fair amount of Kw.
Stage 1 comp cam would harldy be worth putting in for the time and effort.
MACE heads Im not too sure about but they have tons of room for porting, probably a waste of money unless you get them ported then thats going to cost a lot extra.
Stroker kit is a good start, I wish I had one but I probably never will due to the cost and installation costs on top of that.
If you are running a supercharger I doubt a MACE memcal will be very good for it, you would be 100% better off getting it dyno tuned.

Don't get me wrong, Im a fan of the V6 too but they are very costly to turn in to high performance motors.

If you were to start with a cam and stroker kit then get a dyno tune you are already looking at 8-9k.

Realistically an exhaust, extractors, high ratio rockers and a Mace memcal would be plenty enough for a young bloke to enjoy. If you want more get a shift kit for the auto and play with the diff gears.

Unless you have money to burn I would just keep the 6 and do a few bolt ons.

If you have a ton of money l67 heads/manifold/SC, would be a good starting point if you are going to be stroking it.

save all your money on them mods and just turbo a stock v6 we are going into the 10's on the 1/4 on a totally stock 200000km+ engine with cam only before we even think about any mods to it

alot of vn v6s are used in salt races....
they rev faster and harder than their equivelant age v8's
but if equal spent on an eight it would be pretty bloddy mean

love it how everyone picks on the 6 runners on this site...
