Fuel meter buggered?

Hey guys, i own a Vx acclaim and the Fuel meter has been telling me i always have a little more fuel that i actually do. The other night i was driving and i ran out of fuel when my Dist to empty said i had a good 170 ks left and 1/4 of a tank left.
i put $40 in witch got me about 30 liters and then it told me i had about 3/4 of a tank when i should've only had just under half.
any ideas whats wrong with it?

check the calibration of the instruments is correct (go to holden take them five minutes)
else probably a dodgy sender inside the fuel tank!~

vx and vy are notorious for running out of fuel at 100km till empty

There were a dodgy batch of fuel senders on late VX and early VY commodores. I think the float arm gets jammed. Replace it and no more problems

Its before that my 97 VT is the same the senders a crap I have replace one already and its doing it again.

Best way to fit it is to think the 1/4 mark is the empty mark

You'd think that they'd be able to make a fuel gauge that works by now..?

i have the same peoblem, so do i just replace the fuel sender inside the tank and it should be all good ?????

I have the opposite problem. It tells me I have 90kms to go and it's at the red line just over empty but then I put roughly a quarter of a tank in it and it goes up to half lol
