Hey guys i have a vt ss 5.0 manual it has a idle problem were it idles up at 1500 then back down to about 500 sounds like a massive cam and sometimes just cuts out cause it under revs and when ya hold revs when driving it misses and when ya back off its jerks and sitting at 100kms/h the engine light comes on
The 5.0 Vt has a fault on the cam locator plate in that one side of the lock in fingers brakes off. Sounds like yours has done just that. If you continue to drive it you will wreck the engine. The motor mechanic opposite the Currumbin post office on Currumbin Creek road is an expert on it. If the engine is not damaged it costs $1500 to change the whole setup with a great improvement in power etc. Its a design fault that Holden have wiped their hands of as soon as the warranty period was over, they don't even make the part anymore. Hope its not to late.
First thing to do would be to check if you have any diagnostic codes logged. You may have a faulty throttle position (TP) sensor. By monitoring the output voltage from the TP sensor, the PCM can determine the fuel injector’s base pulse width. A broken or loose TP sensor can cause intermittent bursts of fuel from the injectors, and an unstable idle, because the PCM thinks the throttle is moving.
