Gudday
New to the site, i have a 2002 VX S pack manual just turned over 150000kms
for some reason though, the engine holds its revs in between gears for a short time before dropping. On an early gear change they will even rise to about 2500 before coming down.
Doesnt seem to do it on down changing so much or when decelerating.
A free rev in neutral has it hold momentarily before returning to idle speed?
Can anyone please give me an idea what the cause could be? Many thanks
I would be looking at the TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor).
Take it off and give it a clean.. I has a similar problem with an RB 30 one..
I know its totally different, but may we worth a try.
I'd be giving the throttle a reall go clean.
Whip it off and give it a good scrub using some Turps in a tub and a nice stiff brush, the getin into the internal bits with an old tooth brush. A little pressure pack is even good to squirt into the small area's you'll be suprised how much crap gets into them.
If it still does it after that, Start looking for some split vacuum lines.
is it holding steady revs or just very slowly droping down when you rev it in neutral
but what you are describing in between gears, i have found all vx v6 manuals do that. sometimes it makes it sound like an auto
then i jump into my mates vy and the revs drop down like normal
mine does the same
yeah then its every vx manual :P
because i have cleaned my throttle body about 6 months ago and nothing changed.. but clean your throttle body anyway![]()
but if its holding revs for too long and not just taking its time going down then read this
VT v6 5spd engine holding revs when i clutch it
![]()
My VX manual s-pac does the same.. I figured since so much air goes into the engine, it was having a hard time getting it out again so I was considering extractors and shit.. Will this make no difference?
nah extractors and SS inductions CAI will make no difference as i have these on my car
yep i have the same shit happening with my vx manaul, and its only got 78,000km on it. Ive got a full exhaust. And yes your right ^^^^ it does make it sound like a friging auto.i wish i could fix it to.

yep, my manual does the same thing. When I got the HD clutch and
solid flywheel put in it helped a bit but only very slightly.

Mine does it as well, got aftermarket clutch also no difference
i bought a manual vx so it didnt suond like a shitty auto with an exhaust..
i bought a vx commodore spac manual aswel and it also does the same thing! even when u put it into nutural after being in a gear. the revs will increase a tiny bit and then drop. im thinking maybe holden have done this to make the ride smoother between gears. pitty it makes it sounds more like an auto tho.
cheers for the help. sounds like a common problem then eh, but ill give the throttle body a clean out. thanks. next step is a bigger exhaust so i can hear the bluddy thing. keen for the same rumble i got from my VR couple years back.
it shits me to tears. there has to be something to do bout it.
Now we have moved onto quantum physics and popcorn.

yep as most you guys said - seems like its here to stay. dammit. cleaned the throttle but no diffrence.
but before i throw in the towel
1) qlndhighway - is the throttle positioning sensor the bit in the side of the throttle body with a spring and looks kind of like a schlong? or something else
2) soop - which lines do i check for splits?
cheers for any more help. if anyone knows where i can get a downloadable workshop manual that would be mint. cant afford the cash for one here with the way things are going.
mate i wouldnt go to great lengths to try and stop this from happening... cause its here to stay lol
but if you find a cause please let me know :P
ECU Tuning?
Hi everyone,my first time on this site.I to have the same problem with revs holding between gear changes on my vy storm ute which is a v6.I spoke to a auto electrical guy about the prob and he suggested unplugging the idle control motor plug to see what happens. So have now been running around for over a week with no real problems. The only difference is the idle speed is approx 2 or 3 hundred revs less when idling.I have also worked out by putting a switch on the power wire to the idle motor it can be turned back on at any time if need be if I plug it back in.The revs between gear changes is now normal. The plug on the idle motor has 4 wires the pale green wire on the outside is the one I put the switch in not the one on the other outside with the black stripe as this one will cause the engine to start revving.
Cheers
Hi there,
I have also got the same problem with my VX I see you also live in nelson
im going to try disconnect the idle control valve tonight {it drives you nuts aye!!!}
sounds like it has fixed the prob for you but worries me running it with no idle control
hopefully we can figure a way to run this correctly.
Cheers Phill
gday any one no of this problem with vs 5 speed..?spluttre with quick rev and drops slowly when changing gears..any help would be appreciated..
