How Do I Remove Tailshaft & Replace Uni Joint Rubber Coupling

Hey i need urgent help by Friday on how to do this. I have shredded the universal joint rubber coupling at the front, on my VT S Pack manual. Its not the cross looking uni joint by the way

I bought the new part for $180 today, and i need it fitted for Friday as i have work Friday night.

The car is currently jacked up and on 4 axel stands. My mechanic has told me all i need to do is undo a few bolts and remove the tail shaft, apparently its that easy, then slot off the old joint and put the new one in and put back together. Just want to check its this easy

I have also read somewhere the transmission will leak when tail shaft is removed. Will it leak so much i need to replace? And what kind of fluid that leaks will i need to replace, remembering its manual.

Dont want to stuff it up or anything, so just getting a bit of advice and re-assurance. If anybody knows of any guides to do this on the internet please link me, remembering it is NOT the cross pattern universal joint, its the front rubber coupling. Looks like a big circle/hexagon part with bolts around it

On the manual, no fluid should leak out. It's only on the Auto where you take the splined part of the shaft out of the extension housing.you'll need to undo the centre bearing bolts aswell, and also at the differential to enable the tailshaft to come completely out. You may need to drop the exhaust down aswell to enable the tailshaft to come out.

Did the job myself, took about 5 hours purely coz we had to do it laying under the car, not from the comfort of a hoist. The biggest pain was putting the tailshaft back onto the safety catch braket in the middle near the join from the cat to the exhaust. It kept sitting against the undercarriage of the car and the bolts wouldnt go in. Eventually got it, all works, not bad for somebody non mechanically minded, saved a $120 on labour or something like that so happy with the result

Also had some fun toying around with the exhaust cut at the diff, and moving it around on the cat abit, but in the end put it back coz low revs sounded like a tractor :P
