Aftermarket tail lights. Legal/illegal?

I was wondering if someone would be able to tell me if something like this is actually legal. I've found a matching garnish too.I've already got other illegal stuff on my car and i don't really want to push my luck too much more lol

Illegal as the tint reduces the visibility of your brake lights.

If you were in an accident and the person said they couldn't see your brake lights you might cop it.

ye that's what i thought.it's not exactly this item coz i didn't want to show the exact one in case someone tried to take my idea lol. But the one i found,you could still kinda see the original colours. Wasn't this dark. But ye i figured the same thing.cheers

i spray painted mine they look good, never been hassled by cops. I think i can feel an increase in power aswell

hahaha all good points. But what i meant by stealing my idea was that i wanted this item to be available to me if i decided i wanted it. I'm sure heaps of people have it. Way to make myself look like a fool hahaha :-) decided i'm not gonna go for it anyway. Cheers for the thoughts

pretty sure they r legal aslong as u can see all lights from a distance of 200m. those lights u put up id doubt would pass that tho lol.

Get ur lights spray painted rather than VHT night shades. ive used that on my side indicators and now after a few years the colour is starting 2 fade and turn a deep purple colour lol. Got my rear lights painted properly on my calais tho didnt costs 2 much and coz they have the gloss finish after, they do help redfect the light further rather than wat the nightshades would being a matt finish

can of black spray paint is cheaper(when the cops bust you? its cheaper as you only paid for a can of black paint) 3 can of spray paint at bunning is $5

had cops bust me once in an old vn i had. dark lights with a grey garnish. said sumthing along the lines that you cant have different spec lights ie berlina ones on a executive. Changed the garnish to black as well and never had another problem

yeah the cops down here are starting to get tuff on mods( the rta has rwc testing going on the side of the road like a booz bus)thay tend to send all the older cars in for a test

As previously mentioned, $12 can of Nightshades. Does a good job and leaves a nice gloss finish. As long as you do not mind the older person behind you with poor night vision cruising up your arse at whatever the speed limit is because they did not see your brake lights. And as soon as the insurance company sees the dark lenses, say bye bye to your insurance (if you actually have insurance) because dark lenses are illegal in most if not all Australian states and territories. The really funny ones are the lads with black headlights. My go is more is better when it comes to seeing where I am going

wat nightshade were u using? my VHT can wasnt glossy at all and as said has now changed colour lol. i guess u get wat u pay 4.

There are ADR's with regards to luminosity of lights and reflectors. I suggest the ebay lights above would fail each test with flying (super dark tinted) colors. The add hints that they are not for street cars.

Chech with your insurance company before you do any mods, as this is the easiest way they can get out of financing your claim, if an accident occurs. Remember, Do you have the cash to replace your vehicle, if the insurance company declines your claim due to illegal mods???
