Default Indicator problem - what needs replacing?

    Hey everyone,

I'm currently having a problem with my indicator, and it's the most annoying thing ever. Basically after I use the indicator, it keeps making the clicking sound (the indicator does go off though).

Any ideas of what's wrong and how much it will cost to get fixed.

    Cheers

I wouldn't say that it clicks fast. It clicks as if my indicator is on, for varying amounts of time. I thought that it may be a short circuit, and my dad reckons it may need a new flasher can, but I don't even know what that is haha

The flasher unit is in the fuse panel below the steering column but I doubt it is the problem. I'm inclined to agree with wamboin23 (first reply)

what happens over time is that the little metal 'filings' that come off the contacts in the switch mix with the grease in the switch to become a conductive paste.

What then happens is even when the indicator stalk is in the off position, a small amount of current is able to flow through the paste. It is enough to turn on the flasher unit, but not enough to make the globes visibly flash.

if you do it yourself, just the price of the indicator switch if you do it yourself. Really only need a phillips head screwdriver.

or if you take it somewhere, the price of the switch and labour. you'd be looking about 1/2 hour or so.

not sure on the price of the stalk off the top of my head.
