Hey guys anyone seen this before? My VT S2 SS gen 3 does this thing very occasionally where its like its not in park or neutral when i try to start, the dash lights up but the starter is dead, it did it once before it took me an hour of trying then it just started, right now ive been trying for hours no luck. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Cheers
Not sure if same as my problem but I cleaned the contact spring around the ignition keyhole plus the little knob sticking out of the keyhead and my son suggested that I change the way I put the key in. The key head has little knobbly bits in a depression on one side. That side has to face down, he says (he worked for a very big holden dealer in Brisbane). Well after the clean and change in the way I use the key, I have not had the problem since. Do all your dash lights come on? Have you checked all your battery cable terminals for clean, bright contact surfaces? Both at the battery and the other ends of the cables. The little wire to the starter motor solenoid can be corroded or insecure as well. That enough to go on with for now?
Yeah everything seems normal except nothing when i turn the key to fire up the engine, ive checked all the obvious things, battery connections etc, its like its in gear but its not, ill check those contacts thanks for that, Im thinking its that or immobiliser or inhibitor switch.
Try moving the shifter back and forth or ever try locking and unlocking the car with the remote.. Maybe something simple..

Yes as said above your BCM/immobiliser is most likely the culprit, though cleaning the neg terminal on the battery would not hurt
Take off the neg post clamp and snip the cable back a 1cm or 2 (till its nice clean wire) clean the clamp with a wire brush/or replace with a newy and replace the clamp on the wire.
Ok well after hours of trying to solve it checking inhibitor, connections, battery, etc it finally just started like nothing was ever wrong, i was messing about with the key in the ignition when it came right so maybe its a prob in there? Will tidy up battery terminals as advised though cheers for the advice all
You may have just had some crud on the little contact outside the ignition barrel
