Unhappy Bad ticking at the harmonic balancer end of engine

    Hi all,
I'm a newbe to this site but not to forums in general.
My name is Barry but people call me Bazz.
My car just developed a real bad / loud ticking sound that's coming from around the harmonic balancer / pulley end of the 3.8 V6 ecotec engine. When you give it a rev it increases in speed then seams to quieten down.
    Any thoughts???

    Cheers Bazz

I have a similar sound coming from my motor but was told by a couple of people (1 a mechanic) suspect timing chain tensioner. Anyway I am going to replace them and see who was right. Might do the harmonic balancer while I am there. It has 224700 on it so would be near due anyhow.

    Hi locolatino & graham7773,
Yeah just dropped mine off this morning to the mechanic, so hopefully it's not that bad ... mine's done 244000km so I guess some things are gonna wear out sooner or later.
Up Date.... It was the air con pump bearing...It's cheaper to get a second hand pump than overhaul the original. Still looking at $500 to install & refill air con!

    Cheers
