Hey guys,
Just bought a VX Calais Gen3 Auto, drove it 5 hours home and after the first hour or so, when you slow down from 110kms to 60km zones, the check engine light would come on for a few seconds then go out again.. Also noticed some other wierd things, the traction control button and the power button only work randomly, sometimes they do.. sometimes they dont.. and power windows the same....
When i pulled over once i noticed it had a wierd idle... pulsating up and down... when i got home it
just seems to be idling high (a little over 1000rpm)..Theres no obvious vacuum leaks or anything like that, wasnt low on oil or anything...
Obviously im going to have to get the codes checked, but has anyone had this before???
I feel like ive bought a lemon.

My old boys does this.
Are all your PCV lines in good condition?
Check your alternator is charging and the battery has enough guts to it. (load test it).
It's possible your IAC or TPS or both are playing up. This would contribute to the bad idle.
But in the same sense so would bad O2 sensors, maf or leaky injectors.
It'll be far easier to diagnose once you get the codes checked?
If I was nearby I'd do it for free.
his does the exact same???
im going to get the codes checked asap.. also did just notice its got an elcheapo brand battery with only 420 ccas?? would have thought it would want a bigger powered battery?
could be that maybe???
Nahh, CCA just dictates cold cranking amps. If the car starts easily the battery is fine.
His does a very similar thing.
TRAC light - Leaking dif seal, grotty ABS sensor.
Engine light - Due to the pressure switch
Oil light - Dodgy Oil pressure switch < --- nothing major engine is fine, switch is rooted.
Airbag light - Leaking dif seal, Grotty ABS sensor
ABS - Leaking dif seal, grotty ABS sensor
You idle issues will be either knackered 02 sensors, plugs, leads, MAF, IAC, TPS or possibly the IAT.
It could also very well be a split PCV line, have alook at the passenger side rocker cover and find the vacuum line on top of the rocker towards the back of the motor, you'll see that it runs into a Y peice, they tend to split there.
But have alook over the whole thing.
If you don't know what they are I can elaborate.
well it was a split in the PCV line.. Runs perfect now.. cheers for the help!
Just found mine was broken. Went looking for the oil leak at the back of the motor and found the PCV line was in two. Explains the oil leak...
How much was the replacement?
I think the new PCV hoses cost me around $75, not cheap for some plastic hoses. It is very common for the Y piece to perish, the new updated one is better.

MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
can someone explain what and where the pcv valve is? sorry guys
it stands for positive crankcase ventillation.... mines gone at the moment, its a hose with a one way valve just behind the throttle body.
