VT windscreen rails?

Hi guys
my Q. is this
i just brought a VT '97, and i noticed that the windscreen rubber was dried & Cracked.
so i went to pick & payless and got a rubber
however my VT has rails that the rubber sits in (like the roof seals)
and all the seals i looked at at P&P didn't have this rail system in them
can i just rip-out the rails and place this rubber in or do i need a Special seal type
if so, would someone have a part# for this type please

Are ya talking about the metal strips which run either side of the front windscreen or the rear??If its the front then just get them replaced by a windscreen specialist, apparently they dont produce that anymore as its unsafe and dangerous in an accident, well thats what i got told so now my windscreen has flat rubber all the way around.

it underneath the the glass as the arrow bit

Hi Mate,

I had that stuff on my car. I don't believe you can buy it anymore. I got a windscreen guy to come and replace my seals and he could only put in the later model type of rubber seal the same as Kunu's. Still cost $100 though!
