Question Should my vt be this height? also lowering advice

    Hey fellas
i recently put new wheels on my car which is a 97 vt exec with standard springs and shock. They also have these airbag things in the rear (not bags lol) which helped when towing a caravan, if anything it was to keep it higher.

I put on 17s 235/45/17 and i know they are only 17s but i thought it would be higher than this. could it be my standard springs have sagged alot over time? or is it normal to be this height?

I was gonna put in sl's into the rear but im not sure if i want it dropped another 50mm from what it is now!

also the back is probs lower than the front which confuses me, but could be the lpg tank?

    cheers fellas!

Your 17's will be the same Height as your 15's becasue of the tyre profile (45) on the 17's

    the height looks about right,

All depends on the roads you drive on,

I have ssl kingsprings and 17"s on my VT and its "Low" really to low for these crappy roads around here, I also have LPG 72L tank,
It look great this low but its the roads are bad for it.

I was thinking of raising it back up to FE2 height its a good all round height

Yeah would look good but legality and practicality will be more important to me.

I was also considering lows/fe2 but i think as my springs are old it probably wont be much of a different. Superlow will be it then.

Also on the SL and SLHD is there much difference?

    cheers

LPG will definitely lower your car if it is not the factory fitted one. GMH fitted heavy duty springs to its cars that had LPG standard. The LPG outfit with a full 80 liter tank will add upwards of 150kg to the back of your car, hence the heavy duty springs. Fill your petrol tank, fill your LPG tank and look at the rear end. also look out for speed bumps in car parks especially if you have a tow bar fitted

    alright then its settled.
    another question.
I know in most cases with the same height springs the front will usually sit lower, but as i said mine has the extra weight and looks higher in the back will SL all round be levelled out?

also i have 17x8 rims, will SL on the front cause problems with rubbing?

You Shouldn't have any rubbing with sl's

with the back I'd try and get some a bit bigger,

Ah right. Well i think that if my backs a bit lower anyway it should level out with sl all round.

Would i be better to supply my own springs/camber kit and then get a place to install it? or should i get a place to supply and install?
Im not going to do it myself by the way. cheers

You'd probably get a better deal with supply & install see how you go. shop around for a good deal,
I brought my ones at a Tyre center when I got my mags,

The increase in rim diameter means an equal decrease in tyre diameter. The height of your wheels from tip to tip would be exactly the same. Your car looks like a normal height.

Nah take the springs out and put 20's on. It won't scrub the guards and you won't scrape anything...it'll be fine.

    lol.

Springs are the biggest placebo. Just a way for Pedders to steal our money!

But in all seriousness, Just rang ACE undercar down in C-towwwwn and got quotes $648 for springs, adjustable camber kit and wheel allignment etc. Sound like an ok price?
    Also are ACE reputable enough?

a tyre place up the road also quoted me roughtly 740 or so for the same setup.

    wtf lol.

$400 at the Tyre Factory for springs supplied+fitted. Spend the extra coin and get shocks put in at the same time, and get a camber kit. All up you should see a bit of loose change out of a grand, but do it properly. Don't half ass it, because you'll regret it.

Well the cut down equivilent from ace was springs supplied and fitted for 348, then 300 extra supply and fit for the camber kit, and that included the wheel allignment and whatever else.

Also I've decided against shocks. They arent needed, sure I know it'l make it ride like a dream but doesn't fuss me too much.

Give me a call when you can't be ####ed driving your car anywhere any more because the ride quality is that bad.

Everyone says what you say when they start out, 'oh I'll just do springs to cut costs'...trust me, if it's your daily driver, spend the extra $350 on some Monroe GT Sports.

Your choice, but you will regret it. Like everyone else.

Ah well like everyone else I'm just gonna do springs.

Maybe in the future I'l get sick of it if it turns out to be a shit ride, but for now id rather save a bit of coin. Call me cheap I don't mind, but just my opinion.

If it's that bad in the future I'l get shocks.
