Hey, I've been wanting a commy for ages now and finally decided it was time to buy one. While i was looking on carsales i found a vx lumina with close to 200,000 kms on it. It needs a bit of work, a transmission for one thing as it apparently doesnt work. Its advertised for only $1500, do you think its worth bothering to have a look at it or moving on?
Also, how much do vx trans go for?
Cheers, Jack
heres the link btw, 2002 HOLDEN COMMODORE LUMINA VX II Private Cars For Sale in SA - carsales.com.au
the cheaper the car, the more you will spend fixing it..............
Cheers for the input guys, realised its not worth it
That car is now sold, looks like you missed out and saved your money lol
What is your budget?
You dont want a car that you have to spend money fixing as soon as you buy it. Keep looking, there are some good ones out there.
^^^ as above, be patient. it will be satistfying when you pick up a new pride and joy![]()
I'll be putting up a VT Acclaim soon, its in decent nick, its in canberra though, but i would honestly put my bottom dollar on if you came and pick it up it would happily drive all the way home no problem. Never failed on me once, appart from the standard stuff, flat battery here and there, owned it since new, good service history, few little things wrong with it, but overall its good, and it has rego, 3 or 6 months, your choice, but you pay for it. $2000 for the car, rego is about $220 for 3 months. think about it.
Budgets about $5000, found a couple of VT Acclaims we're organising to have a look at this week, so we'll see how that goes haha.
And thanks for the offer VRMan, but its a bit too much of a hassle.
I personally would buy the VX Lumina. But I also have the space to go to the auctions and buy a wreck with a good power train and use the gearbox from it. I also have the knowledge to put the gearbox in the car and get it going. For someone like me that is a good bargain but for someone that doesn't have the space/knowledge or tools it would be too much work.

jtsaus...go check out Universal Motor Auctions, Torrens Rd. there is a nice looking VX there. You would be surprised how little they go for at auction. I think it's listed with photos on their web site.
