Just got a VX exec on Monday and thought i'd do the right thing and do a major service on it, plus it had a broken engine mount so got that done too.
somehow i feel that i got ripped off...
major service 400$
coolant flush 90$
break fluid flush 90$
engine mount 250$
alll up i got no change from 900$ , does this sound fair to you?
I don't see anything majorly over the top here. Maybe a little rich on the service, but I've seen people pay more for the mounts though.

when i first bought my car i did a major major service cost me $1400
On a workshop hoist the mount should not take more than 20 minutes plus cost of new mount. Genuine or after market? $250 seems a bit rich. My daughters VZ costs $385 for major service so maybe a bit high.
Brake fluid flush is $50 at my mechanics and if the coolant flush included new coolant, not too bad
Engine mount costs about $30 on ebay, $220 for labour is a bit over the top on that.
Actually depends on which engine mount isn't one harder to get to than the other?? What did they change in the service? Did it include plugs and leads?

IMHO unless you cannot do the work yourself due to lack of skill, time, tools etc. all mechanics bills are too high, frankly.
thanks for all replies.. its bloody expensive!!
but yea. blood not boiling anymore, thanks
daughters subaru outback is up for its major service. $1200 according to subaru . 900 at our local. yes its a bitch to work on
i do as the voices tell me
WOW engine mount's 250$
i bought to brand new one's for $70 and went to this mechanics in Worri Yallock in Vic and he charged me $60 to change both of them = $130 almost half the price :S
did he change, air and fuel filter and leads, because they usually arnt included in major service, u would wanna hope he did for $400. u should do it all urself, prob only cost just over $100 for all service parts, its piss easy. buy the gregorys manual for $50 and never return to a mechanic ever with a vx![]()
A major service should include the coolant and brake fluid, engine oil, grease, filters, plugs ,leads, wheel alignment ,tyre rotation, engine management, check and tighten any lose bolts, check hoses, every thing needs to be checked for safety etc, thats why its called a major service this should all be included they have double dipped and the engine mounts $30-$60 at supercheap auto
Gee no wonder mechanics are making such a hard living.
And yes the price you paid is reasonable, ofcourse yes some shops may be cheaper annd some will be more, but you havent been ripped off.
Are the engine mounts genuine or after market?
about 10 years ago I was quoted for a full service on a VP commie. was $690 plus parts. had to pay for oil, coolant, plugs etc etc on top of the $690
I laughed and walked away. do my own services now.
and this VP is still goin with near 800,000 k's on the clock.
