Hi guys.. as you all know ive only just purchased this car and owned it two weeks.. I have not serviiced it yet but it will be soon..
Just wondering your honest opinion.. if the gearbox/engine fail should i just put another one in??
Or do i cut my losses and get something else? I know this may sound like a really stupid question.. But just wondering how long your commodore has gone ? most ive ever had was 375...
I got quoted 5 grand for a engine rebuild.. i mean heck you can get ecotech's bloody cheap now..
Just need opinions...

most kms i've had on a car was 230k but that was a 5lt..

had a very hard life but its still going strong
Chev badges are an instant fail
exactly mate.. looking at the same price to put in a v8
should have a look into it
my old lancer had 400k on it :P
mine has 300 on it, and still a very strong motor, although it has been worked a little, so i make sure services are done very regular, a serviced motor will last a long time, im finding the rest of my car is failing though, but thats age
my old vp has 395 on it also seen vt/vx with same amount and the orignal motor

My 5L VT is nearing 270,000kms.
I can definitely feel the diff/trans causing a bit of sluggishness. Not sure if the motor is still going strong, should probably get it compression tested.
id just service it and keep driving it,from what i hear aslong as the motor is serviced they could do 500-600,000kms easily, gearbox not so much. my vy has now done 273,000kms and the gearbox is just starting to play up very slightly according to the mechanic but more than likely just needs a service. i dont flog it either...
My parents had a VL wagon from new that when we sold had 650,000 on it (plus the odo stopped working for 3 years) it owed us nothing and was far from serviced regularly.
