VT transmission not selecting gear

Hi there. I just put another engie in my vt, i connected everthing up and i mean everything ive gone over it all again and again.... its all running but ive got no drive or reverse no nothin.. its got oil, linkages are all connected, plugs are all in... i used my old gearbox and it worked fine on the other engine... any ideas people?????

i dont have a scan tool

just tried crossing pins 5 & 6 on the data connector and nothing happened.. engine magagement light stayed on and didnt flash at all...
