Default Opinions on loudness of exhuast notes

    Hey Guys,
I am about to get myself a new catback exhuast for my VXII Clubby R8, I am tied between two types.
Both will be a twin 2 1/2 inch stainless steel catback exhuast from X-force. (exiting only on one side)

My dilema however lies with the last mufflers, I am thinking the twin hotdog styled muffler which according to the 'House of Power' (guys I wanna buy from) its a 'little to loud'. They say its rated as a noise level as 'high'.

Or there is their muffler option which has a noise level of medium.

Unfortunately they don't have any cars fitted with the hotdog so I cannot go an listen to it.
And am yet to listen to the 'medium' one either.

But just looking for opinions. Anyone got one? Like it? Hate it?

(Also this will be my everyday car)

Cheers for any feed back guys.

    DrZ

Even with that big ressy in the tail pipe they are quite loud... so the hotdogs would roar.

A mate of mine has twin 2.5 xforce on her VYSS cammed, stalled etc. With the system that has the big ressy it is reasonably loud just idling!

Twin 3 inch would be louder again

Id look into a bigger twin in twin out glass pack ressy. i know these can be bought. With still have a note, but not offensively loud
Hit me up with some reputation points if i've helped you out! (Star in the bottom left!) Cheers!

I have the twin 3inch with rear resi and it was still 106db at 3000rpm. I ended up replacing the rear resi with a much larger unit and it is so much quieter now, and sounds alot beter.

    Just use a decent brand.

Xforce has to be the lowest common denominator when talking premanufactured exhaust systems. Honestly unless you want to bolt it up yourself. Go pay some hard working joe to make you a custom exhaust with some DECENT mufflers. A couple of very good quality mufflers off ebay will set you back about $500 a pair. It will sound great and wont be incredibly loud.

    $500 seem expensive?
Imagine what Xforce have to do in order to make a whole exhaust system for less then that...

Also, the "Xpipe" in the Xforce systems are a massive restriction and cause the car to loose low end torque and top end power. They also make it sound revolting.

I've got the twin 2.5" big rear can setup on my VX. It's pretty loud. Too loud for my liking, I'm considering my options.
Before that I had the same setup but with the rear hotdogs. It was just crazy as far as I'm concerned. I fitted it on a weekend and by Thursday I had the rear hotdogs replaced with the full resonator.

I have a twin 3" cat back on my clubby, xforce. Drones like a bitch but I have heard on here when I put pacies and high flow cats it will stop droning. How does the sound differ when removing the x pipe soop?

if your sticking with x force id definately go with the quiter option. mainly because they sound sh**. if your on a tight budget ive heard a few cars with redback systems that sound better than xforce so id look into that

One option with the Xforce system. Get rid of the X pipe and replace the mufflers. You can get magnaflow mufflers of ebay for a decent price. Cheap ish way to get a good exhaust system.

think youll find the cheaper exhausts sound fine, as long as you do something with the cats.
every poor sounding ls1 iv ever heard has standard cats, once they are removed or replaced with highflow ones they sound 10 times better

decent set of headers, even if it be hsv ones, do the cats and a catback with two center mufflers and a resie should sound fine

My old boy has my old Xforce system, with highflow cats and some VY GTS extractors. Still sounds seven different shades of shit.

It was going to be my next step.. But okay, has anyone got objections to a bolt on Pacey catback? (I might push it into my budget)

    Thanks guys..

I've got a pacie cat back. Sounds awesome and doesn't drone. Its loud when you get up it, but near silent when cruising. Basically the complete opposite to the xforce.

    really? interesting
a mate of mines got my old sv300 hsv headers, twin highflow cats and a redback system with no resie...sounds horrible, the dronning at cruise is simular to a v6 with no resie... terrible
might be something to be said for hsv headers?

i no everyone will disagree with me and say its stupid, 4-1 headers, straight pipes and twin 2.5" redback exhaust, i love it, cruising sounds like standard, 100km no annoying noise, no drone at all not even a hint.

before i put my redback system on i had a stainless hsv system on it, the difference alone between the redback and hsv system in noise, was not a great deal, how ever once the headers were put on and the cats removed, it became very loud, louder then i first set out for it too be

it sound how ever sound slightly raspy compared too say the holden v8 however

only better/comparable internally standard ls1 iv heard has difilopo( how ever its spelt) headers, no cats and difilopo twin 3" with no resie, very deep and very angrey but it drones quite alot

I spose pacey catback might be the way, or just go the xforce for cheap an bolt it on myself, then see what I wanna do from there. As for no cats in my zorst, I think I will keep them in, as much as I would preffer to just invert my headers an run 8 pipes out of my bonnet / sides. My victory would be short lived and I would be pulled over for not having them, and the last car I heard without cats running round (granted it was a magna) sounded closer to a whipper snipper.. lol

But yeah, maybe I will go the paceys.. I am after a nice rumble at idle, and obviously the harmonic V8 sound when u plant that right foot, as for drone, Mmm..... I suppose we will c.. Most my driving is never over 80kmph atm. So I prob wont notice it till i go freeway..

Is there a way to insulate above the exhaust / muffler to stop as much in cable drone...? Or is that just sound resonating around?

do you want it to be loud? to be honest ive had 7 different exhaust setups before i settled for my MILD STEEL twin 3in with hotdogs one, with 1 3/4 tri Y's and hi flow cats, i would never touch another 2.5in system... or stainless, ive heard copper sounds really good but ive never seen or heard one? i reckon it would get crushed too easy too
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!

3" on a 346ci is over kill, and usless you're doing something really fancy you're going to loose torque.

I am also unsure of what to get on my vx ss, i want to basically go as loud as i can but not sound like shit, because i want it to be heard at idle too. I'm not on the biggest budget too and by the quotes i got from places a full system is not affordable at the moment ha. DrZ if you find anything good let me know because im also in Perth and keen for an exhaust asap haha I had a twin 2.5" on my 5L (2 centre straight through mufflers and rear dual straight through resi) and it wasnt loud enough for my liking so i dont want to make that mistake again.
