    Question Noob Question

This will be a stupid question but i'm a stupid person when it comes to cars.

I just got my first car (99 Vt Executive) which is as stock as a rock and want to get some 18inch VY SS Rims or similar for it. What needs to be done to make it legal, can i just straight swap em or do i need placards and what not?

Now awaiting abuse for asking a question that has been answered a million times but i searched and couldn't find the exact answer

    cheers, Matt

haha, you will get some abuse lol, you can do a quick swap man, the only time you can't is when its VE wheels they will need to be machined to fit

Go to your local tyre store and ask them what is legal as I'm pretty sure you are only allowed 1 size up from what was fitted at purchase. I could be wrong here. Check your tyre placard ...And don't worry about being flamed as some people have nothing better to do and forget when they new jack sh..

the laws are different in every state, and if anyone says they know what the law on this is they are most likely full of shit, the problem is the law changed that many times that its a very grey area now and everyone is confused as to what size rims are legal and what are not, i think with 18's you will be fine as long as your tyres are the correct load rating for your car

maybe your best bet would be to ask the site sponsor (The Wheel Deal) they have a full section to them selves and are generally pretty good with responses to these kind of queries

In QLD I'm pretty sure it goes on the overall diameter of the tyre, not the rim size. From memory it +15mm/-26mm of the stock diameter.

In QLD i believe it is around 2inches more. But i honestly don't think the police here will be too picky as long as you are driving sensibley.

the wheel deal site has links on it explaining legalities when it comes to wheel sizes... and last time i checked (a few months ago) there were no laws regarding bigger rim sizes, but i could be wrong as i looked at Vic only. 18s will be fine on a VT... its when you get to 20s or something that it may have issues. good luck mate

OK got another question. While the car is on sometimes there is a very annoying buzz coming from the indicator lever, doesn't happen all the time just every now and then and when you fiddle with the lever while the buzz is occurring it can stop the noise or make it worse. Any ideas how to fix it?

    Thanks
    Matt
