How the hell do i do this

Iv tried every possable way to remove the gear knob off my VT 5 speed.
How the hell do you do it.
My gregories manual says nothing about it

I know how you feel. My VS has one of these stupid knobs as well. What a shit set-up.

i had the same problem until i one day removed (lifted it up like you would a skirt)the shifter surround boot. i then inserted a flat bladed screwdriver between the step in the shifter and the bottom of the knob and levered it up. once you do it the first time, it's not so hard the second time around.

Hmm I cant help u much, if u had asked how to remove an auot shifter thats another story...

anyway had a squiz in the haynes, wasn't too helpful but this is what it said if its worth anything:

1. release each of the eight plastic clips which secure the gearshift lever rubber boot to the console.

2. Grasp the lever and the gearshift knob firmly. Move the knob back and forth while pulling upwards on the boot. Remove the knob/boot assembly from the lever.

OK. Its a 1 min job
For all those out there who need to know.
You will need...
1x large flat head screw driver (bout 8mm across face)
1x pais of scissors
1x wire zip tie

Procedure
1. carefully unclip shifter boot up off console, after you get a corner up it will just pop out with a little force.
2. pull boot all the way up over the gear knob. (like a female flashing)
3. slip screwdriver directly under bottom of knob and twist wrist, POP off it comes.
4. Cut existing zip tie holding boot onto knob.

instalation is reversal or removal procedure no forgeting to replace zip tie.
