Default How to check for Airbags in seats?

    Hey all,

I was always under the impression all VT onwards had airbags in the seats/side airbags (whatever they are).
Was told today by someone in the know that not all the VT's had this and to check, usually there's an 'SRS Airbag' on the side pillar or something. Mine didn't have anything like this on there.

Mine doesn't have this, I've looked under the seat, and cannot see yellow cables (gregory's manual says SRS cables are yellow). I've got the steering wheel airbag, passenger dash airbag.

Is there a way I can check myself as to whether the seats do or do not have these installed?

    Thanks

dont forget your seat is electric .. so the wires could be for the chair itself... movement front back up down etc...

no holden manual in the car.

I recently changed the pillar covers over. There wasn't a sticker on it previously.

Correct. Side airbags was an option on VX so would be the same on VT I would suspect. Check under the seat for a gas cannister which will tell you either way.

would it be labeled with SRS all over it?

I saw a round looking motor or something, but I think that was for the seat adjustment.
I'll have another good look tomorrow and see if I can work it out.

Ooo, that's good news if that's true.
Means I can throw whatever seats I want into the car.

Need to change mine soon as I've had a dicky drivers seat for near on a year and I feel that enough is enough.

Edit: Just found this information not sure how correct it is being it's an 'unofficial' holden website

    http://www.users.on.net/~nweber/comm.../index.html#ss

Seems to give break down on each vehicle and what airbags and other features they had.

    It's standard on series 2 VT's
Also the unofficial Holden website is a pretty good website.
VT V6 fitted with DMS gold 40mm coilovers, Whiteline adjustable swaybars & strut brace, 330mm AP racing brakes, Rebuilt 3.45:1 LSD and a Powerdyne supercharger

they were optional from series 1 VT, though they weren't available until the latter part of 1998 production.

They were standard on VTII Acclaim, Berlina, Calais, WH Statesman/Caprice and optional on Executive, S and SS.

Run your VIN through a Holden Parts Department. The EPC catalogue will tell them what airbags were fitted to your car.

the side airbag sensors are at the base of the b pillar once you remove the inner trim. sensor = side airbags, no sensor = no side airbags.
