I have a pretty much stock VX ecotech, other than a 2 1/2" sports exhaust. Would there be any benifit from running high ocatne fuel? preformane wise and economy?
have heard numerous responses from mates/ web forums.

Unlikely you'll get a significant increase, nothing you'll notice. As mentioned previous, lots of 98 fuels have additives that claim to clean the engine, best to run a bottle on injector cleaner through it.
I run a tank of 98 through every month or so (roughly every 4-6 tanks).
If tuned properly an engine can get more kw, a stock VX is not one of them lol. I find on long trips can help fuel economy (freeways for several 100 clicks).
I find the car runs smoother on 98 fuels on the whole.
