    Default Vibrating Mirror

    G'day Fellas,

Not a major problem but I thought I ask the wise folk for suggestions.

Driver side mirror is loose & vibrates which kinda makes it difficult to see with. The mirror has a couple of screws underneath that aren't present on the passenger mirror. I've pulled it off, took it apart to find some kind of rubber mount between the mirror housing & the mount connecting it to the arm that screws to the car. It seems like the mount (where the two screws mentioned about come from) could be removed to get inside the mirror but its a funky metal bracket that doesn't seem to allow the screws to be unscrewed far enough to get it apart. Looks like I'll need to get a new mirror but I'd like to have a crack at fixing it first. Any ideas?

Not too sure but I assume it would have some sort of foam or rubber mounting that eliminates the vibration which has gone hard and/or flogged out. Not too sure how to pull the mirrors apart if they're anything like the older ones the glass should just pop off the mechanism with a bit of force.

there are actually 3 screws. i made that mistake when i replaced my mirror, i tried my hardest to get it off but it wouldn't budge, then i pulled some of the exterior foam stuff away and found another. so first look for that. as for the vibrating, this is a little tricky to describe so i apologise in advance, behind the actual mirror itself, towards the outside edge of the whole component, there is a stiff metal....i suppose bracket...that has a spring on the end that is attached to the framing, and the other end simply touches the mirror. believe it or not but this is everything that keeps the mirror from vibrating. 1st, check inside to see if you have one. 2nd, sometimes if you adjust your mirror too far to one side it can come loose and perhaps fall out. the mirror can unclip from the base but it can be tricky, once that is off there will be 3 more screws, torx, then you can get to the whole mechanism.
    hope that helps

if you need to get that metal little bit, i'd say your best bet would be to go to a pick-a-part wrecker and shove it in your pocket. good luck

Thanks for the tip Chimp };-) LOL @ Pick-a-Part.
The previous owner obvisouly had a go at it cos one of the screws in the door (behind the air vent cover) was missing. Dodgy ba$tard. Damn thing clicks when you try to adjust it too far out too. What's the deal with the screws on the underside of the mirror mount the passenger side doesn't have 'em?
I'll give it another crack. Thanks mate.

mmm not sure about the passenger side...never tried it. But as for the clicking, there's a certain threshold that the mirror gears can get to. Once you reach it, the gears will just click coz they can't go any further. How did you go anyway?
