Sound Problem Eurovox Radio

Hi all,

I have a problem with my radio that has me perplexed.

VT 2000 Commodore Station Wagon

Its the standard eurovox radio/cassette.

Sometimes when I start the car it works fine. Other times I will start car and there is no sound (all the standard info on it is displayed, just no sound.)

If it starts fine, and then I drive somewhere and stop and shop. When I get back into the car no sounds come from it.

Its intermittent. Can work ok one day and not the next.

Had unit taken out and hooked another unit in and same problem existed.

If it is not the unit, what else could be causing the problem.

Checked and replaced fuses

Any thoughts greatly accepted

Think.. Not fuses not unit, has to be wiring... Check the plug to See if all pins are totally pushed in, check ground, or even run new power n ground wires direct from the battery

Wouldn't be power or ground otherwise the unit would completely shut off and you'd have no display. Does the problem exist when you listen to a tape or plug an iPod into the "CD" input jack?

check to see that the wiring to all speakers is good. many head units will shut down if a speaker is shorting out, to prevent themselves from blowing up,. Had exact same issue on the VB.

That was the problem.

Checked out all the speaker wiring and traced the problem back to where the installer spliced the hands free mobile installation into the speaker wiring. (this was done about 8 years ago and since then the hands free unit had been removed from vehicle)

As you mentioned, the shoddy splice area was shorting out and shutting the head unit down.

Ran a new wire and it now works a gem.
