Question Seeking advice on how much I can get for the 5L

Just really would like to hear some thoughts on what people think my car would be worth in the condition it is in, selling privately.

It's a 98 Series 1 VT Calais 5L (HSV 195i), has a dead battery, flat tyre (will surely fix before getting rid of) and to be honest isn't in the best of condiions, CD player doesn't work, boot is stuffed and water leaks into it, carpets are stained and almost all the panels need replacing.

But in all fairness she is a good car, she runs well, is just outta rego, and I just don't have the time to fix any of it so i'm hoping I can sell it to someone who will because you won't be disappointed

anyway have a look at the pics and let me know your thoughts (no bullshit please)

Yeah in the condition its in mate without rego I would say you would be very lucky if you got $4-5k for it.
Or you could part in out, in which case ill take your SS Cold air induction kit off your hands :P

I've seen a VT Exec with a 5L in it, with rego, less km's and in much better condition than that for around $3000.

Yeah gonna have to say probs not much, I reckon if you get anything over $2500 your doing well. Would make a nice project car though, that's your best hope for someone buying it or strip it down for parts (seems a shame though).

It's an unfortunate fact that 5ltr VT's just don’t get what they should, I had my SS on the market for months and never got an offer over 5k, for a good condition VT SS, factory sunroof, lowered, exhaust, CAI, tuned. Yet I'd often see VP/VR/VS SS's go for the 5k to 8k range. Good luck with the sale, if you fixed a few things up I don't see why you wouldnt get 4k for it.

Bare in mind effort vs reward though.
If he were to spend money fixing things up, it wouldn't take much before he'd be wasting time and losing out.

Tis funny really, a VT with a 5ltr goes for next to nothing, but the 5ltr out of a VT, with a gearbox goes for ####loads...
The Rollercam engines are worth a fortune, especially if they are in good nick.

yea I thought the same thing, if I can't sell as a whole then I more than likely will strip it, would love to throw the engine in a torry/corty or gemmi but thats just wishful thinking atm.

$2500 is just my opinion of what I might pay, take it as just my twisted opinion mate By the way very possible you could get more. Only reason I think you might have trouble is that panel damage, makes it look worse, I'm guessing the engine is good nick? But that boot will put people off. Plus it's a series I, they are worth less and less these days.

But if I you call the low of $2500 and a high of $5000. $3750, that's not too bad really, closer to what you could hope for.

I honestly don't think you will have many genuine buyers once they see the condition. They will more then likely straight away presume its been flogged and not looked after. How did it get it such a shitty state in the first place? Im not saying you did im just curios lol

If you look at the pluses, it is a calais, so fully optioned, parting out is the way to go:

    - motor/gearbox/pcm/bcm/loom etc as a conversion kit is popular for V6 Vts, earlier cars & rods.
    - The Leather interior will always sell for good $$.
    - Even the woodgrain bits would sell well.
    - Genuine SS kits with foggies are very sought after.
    - Aftermarket CAI are pricey so sell well secondhand.
    - Electric window kits are sought after.
    - Cruise control setup is also popular for exec upgrades.

I reckon just selling this lot alone will fetch far more than the car is worth as a whole. Worth a thought if you have the time to part it.

In WA if the rego runs out you have 3 months to pay it before you have to hand the plates in. If that's the case where you live, pay the bloody rego. Cars are worth lots more licensed than they are unlicensed. Selling this LICENSED as a project car would fetch you around the $3,500 mark I would think.

OR, bring it to WA and sell it everything goes for more over here you'd get $4,500 for it LICENSED all day long.
