    Default Level 3 Cluster Configuring

    I have a 2000 Series 2 VT-S which had a level 2 single window cluster. I have now fitted a Level 3 cluster. All functions work, fuel used, trip time, average and inst fuel etc etc.


    2 holden dealers told me 100% different things, one said the odo should change to the original by itself coz its saved in the ecu, the other said its saved in the actul cluster, but after 100,000ks they are locked and can never be changed.

    Neither of them would clear my airbag light without wanting to check over my whole srs system.

    My issues

    - Airbag light came on but have reset that now so no issue there
    - The overspeed just says "OFF" and cannot be adjusted
    - The Odo is wrong
    - Is there a way to make the hidden features (Holding mode and up button while starting) be there all the time?

    Any help with this is much appreciated.

    u will need 2 get the cluster recalibrated 2 suit ur car as the lvl 3 cluster more than likely has different features.

    the level 3 cluster does it have a white or black back housing? if its white it can b changed using a tech 2 at any stage which means its from a VT. If its black its from a VX and if theres more than 100kms on the odo then it cant b changed backwards but it can add on kms if thats wat u need 2 have it the same. Some of the later VTs and more higher end VTs used the VX cluster even tho its in VT. The odo reading gets saved in the cluster itself not the ecu thats y all clusters need/must b calibrated 2 suit ur own individual car.

    thanks for the info, the one that came OUT of the car has a black backing, the one that went IN has a white backing.


    I had a similar to tech 2 machine plugged into it today while i cleared the airbag light. It was set for V6 and all the gauges etc all work fine after testing. when i went to a calibrate function it just said it couldnt connect to the cluster. so im presuming i need an actual tech 2 to do this. Yet holden wont touch it.... I need a 3rd party source for a tech 2 lol

    Also, i need the odo to come down not up unfortountly. the car has 172,000ks but the new cluster says 412,000ks no wonder it was at the wreckers lol.

    The ODO cannot be changed, its stuck on 412,000kms, You will just have to know how many Kms are on there by doing some sums.
    And i would say it would need to be calibrated for your car to get all the functions to work correctly. not to sure on that. Something tells me you need to have a HI or LUX BCM to control all the 3 displays correctly.

    since u got the white cluster going in the KMs can b changed using the tech 2 unit so ur in luck. Speak 2 dr bob on the forums and give him all the details of ur car (he will ask u). last time i heard he was only charging around $150 2 do it.

    Just worked out the Over speed function, i had to hold the mode button to activate it and its now working.

    But yeah, last issue is the ODO, im loving the info wrx884. I sent him a PM yesterday, just waiting for a reply, will get that done asap so the Ks are as close to original as possible. Trying not to drive it much to keep it the same

    They wanted to send it off, didnt want to touch it and said the white/black backed theory of one being able to be adjusted is wrong....

    So i said but do you have a tech 2 so we can alteast try it first before sending it away. He reply yeah we have one but wont do it

    Well my best price so far out of 15 + stores

    $200 and he needs both clusters for 2 days


    They are telling me you cant just change the Ks with a tech 2 even with a white back. One asked if it was a white back, but he still had to pull the cluster apart

    ok 2 confirm that theory man i had my VTs cluster changed 2 my original clusters ODO, Both white and Dr bob explained wat ive already told u. so id suggest speaking 2 him. yes u need 2 send the cluster that u want changed 2 him but uve got ur original cluster u can use so u can still drive ur car.

    u can even try Greg (ASR) he has 1 also but not sure if he can do the settings on the clusters yet u can only ask.

    the tech 2 is used so u can match ur current features on ur own personal car so it'll work the same way ur old 1 did and u wont have any faults or inaccurate readings.

    yeah, all these holden/auto elecs are tools.

    Chelsea holden told me its illegal, but a shop down the road will do it lol....


    Still waiting on dr bob to reply. im real keen to get it done.

    gday mate, okay here it goes:

    i have currently in my car a level 3 cluster from a HSV (V8) so i have all the problems you are having as well. My airbag light comes up all the time when i start that car which i need to get the cluster programed so it only knows there is 1 airbag in my exec not how many there are in the clubby its from.

    My guage sits at 30,000km now the new one and i have got quotes from a few places including one from Ringwood speedo and another out glen waverly way for around $200 to match my km's, because once they are over 100km not 100,000km holden or any other tech2 cant calibrate them, they need to pull out the chip and do their magic with them.

    When i can be bothered there is a guy off this forum who lived in avoca i think near bendigo who has a tech2 machine who was going to do a few things for me for around 100 or something because i didnt get a reply from dr.bob, he was going to:
    -re-calibrate the pules in the tachometer (because its set for a v8 and needs to be set to a v6, as i currently rev like crazy and my sash speed is wrong)
    - make the auto pindle work (idk if yours has the PRND321 on the cluster)
    - remove the airbag fault and set it to my airbag specs
    - turn on police mode (which is what you are after putting the things that show up after pressing UP and MODE when starting, you can only have the SPEED show up, which is instead of the OVERSPEED FUNCTION)


    Idk about this black or white stuff, but someone said you can get it put forawrd without removing the chip or something? is that true as mine is lower than the orginal km's

    I've sent a white back cluster to Dr Bob last year for a customer and he matched the settings and KMS for me. It worked without any problems - so it can be done.

    when you say white back do you mean the whole back of the cluster is white? i dont remember mine being white im pretty sure it was black i know my original cluster is black as its right next to me.....does it have to be white to do this? im confused if it can by tech2 would save me 200

    The back of the cluster is white - it has a different PCB number on the main board to the "black backed" clusters.

    I dont know what Dr Bob uses to do this with - but he is a guru with this stuff. Contact him via memcals.com web site.

    If you can only go forward on speedo set it to 999,999,99 so it then cliks to 00000000. Then it is under 100 km so can be adjusted. Or is that just to simple? Just a thought cheers

    I've been told that they stop at 999999. So not an option.

    How did you go? I have a VZ Exec single LCD display cluster, just purchased (off ebay) a triple window cluster which I have been told is from the V6 Berlina.. I need to get it programmed. I live in Frankston, and would like to find someone in the near area.

    Have also contemplated buying a Tech2 and learning how to do it myself. I figure it can't be that hard, but can't justify the cost for maybe just a once only use.

    In Melbourne try Rob's Creative Calibrations or contact phreddy from asr on this forum (he did the WL cluster for my VZ).
