    Default VX Suspension Clunk

    Hey all,
Had my vx exec for almost a year now been pretty good until lately. Just yesterday i started hearing a clunk sound coming from what seems like the front suspension, tried jacking up the right side to have a better look and the car raises but the wheel stays firmly on the ground everything seems fine and tight except the top of this feels sort of loose

Im fairly sure its the shocks gone, any ideas fellas? And if the shocks do need replacing im going to be lowering my car so would it be a good idea to lower it while they replace the problem?

Do you meant he top of the skinny little rod feels loose? Thats the sway bar link which is the most common cause of knocks and clunks from the front suspension and costs around $50 to replace with brand new Nolethane parts. Yours look like OEM sway bar links...

I put new Nolethane sway bar linkage brushes in and new nolethane strut tops and shocks in and the clunk is still there.

This is where I think the chunk is coming from

To test the shocks, have the car on the ground and press down on the corner of the car to try bounce it up and down. The car should bounce a few times and then settle. If it's stiff, then that''s a sure sign the shock's seized (duh )

Check the top bushing on the swaybar droplink, if it's split, then it needs replacing.

Also, it could be a strut top bearing that's failed. But, money's on the droplink at the moment.

Hey yeah car bounces a few times and settles fine

the sway bar is stock from my knowledge im leaning towards the sway bar link at the moment how do i know if it is the cause?

i dont know how to judge if its split or not but the nut is semi loose and all the washes are free moving

Think i just diagnosed the problem, right hand side link is missing one of the rubber pieces and all the washes and bar is quick loose.
    Does this sound right?

Go to Repco and then fit it yourself. Its a 1 hour job and that's including the time it takes to drink beers during the job.

That kit on e-bay has rubber bushes. I got 4 new rubber bushes from Holden, they cost me about $12. When fitting them you need to have the weight of the car on the wheels so the car needs to be on ramps or similar and just do the nut up until the ruber stops turning, don't squash them.
