Hey guys first post on this forum. I got a 99 vt berlina and about 5 months ago i replaced by dead shocks and springs. Got complete new set from ebay for $660 delivered which included monroe gt sports struts, 2 rear shocks and 4 lowered king springs. Got my mate to install them for me and i dont know if he installed it right. When driving car it seems to be very bouncy on around 100km/h and when cornering too it seems to be tilting a bit and bouncy. Tires have normal psi in them 32. and i just got 2 new tires for the front and balance and alinment. I know my link pins are rat shit again. Nolathan link pins better?. Any ideas how i could fix this issue? thanks guys!
Link pins are there to try to hold your car level when cornering. If they are worn you will have handling issues
Upgrade your sway bars.
There is no such thing as stupid questions, Only stupid people.
Well car is bouncing side to side more then front to back going over minor bumps on the road while going in a straight line. As for swaybars, what would be an upgrade to the standard bar?? and with link pins im going to replace them for the 5th time with nolathan ones. oh and its hard to get any grip while driving in wet weather, i tend to have back end swing out at slow speed and around 100km/h car feels like it could drift across the road at anytime when i hit a bump. car doesnt seem to be hugging the road.
I have new struts and kingspring and my VT dosn't bounce at all, When going around a corner you in your seat and the car just stays straight.
the standart sway bars good enough, if any thing just check your brushs on it.
If your car is bouncing it sounds like a strut problem. try and bounce the front of your car by pushing down on your front guard a few times then see if it keeps bouncing when you stop pushing it. DO that on both sides.
If it keeps bouncing the struts are stuffed.
check and replace ur bushs!
I thought the lower the suspension, the harder the ride, so more bounce over little irregularities in road surface. Watching V8 supercars leads me to this conclusion. They bounce like golf balls on concrete
no, the harder ride simply means that when you go over a bump, the springs push the wheel down to the ground a lot faster than what normal springs would. This ensures more traction more often. They don't cause the car to bounce. I highly doubt that the V8 supercars would bounce. That would mean less traction and bad aerodynamics. What you're probably seeing when they "bounce" is the cars following the lifting and falling contours of the road, but they travel so fast that it just looks like they're bouncing.
If your car is bouncing, one of the first things I would be getting checked out would be faulty shocks. When your shocks pack it in they usually cause that bouncing effect.
well i hope its not faulty, its not more than 20,000 km since they were installed. I am going to get my swaybar checked and or my bushes. I know for a fact my link pins are stuffed, they rattle like a cut rattle snake lol..
doesn't mean a thing. I know people who got new shocks and they failed within 5000kms. it's luck of the draw really...should be under warranty still...maybe
I have Monroe GT sports front struts and SL king springs all round (standard Fe2 rear shocks still)
I also fitted a strut brace and have factory Fe2 sway bars. It is solid as hell now. Maybe grab a strut brace if your unhappy. After all it is a family sedan. They arent made to corner
