Default Lowering a VX and have $3,000 put aside just for this

Just wondering before I go asking all the suspension places about lowering the front and rear suspension in our VX Acclaim if $3,000 would be enough.
I like the Monroe lows but also want the rear setup so I can still tow a 6 x 4 box trailer with say 250kgs once in a while and with the lows do folks still use the front and rear standard mud flaps without them draging, we are using adaptored 16 x 7 '' VE steelies as the rims.
I know nothing about the suspension and am wondering if special lower shocks and springs need using also are pump up rear shocks available for the rear when towing the trailer, I want to surprise hubby when he come home from 14 days on. Where off to the Colly Rocks on festival in June and with the 16'' fake white walls we'll have a modern type old school looking cruiser..

$3000 would be more than enough,i wouldnt go telling any shops you have that to spend though as they'ed sell you all sorts of crap you dont need...you would probably get away with doing it all for around $1000 fitted

you could get your car bagged for that sort of money and that would help with towing

yes i think pedders do load assist rear air bags, which will allow you to go low and then when towing a trailer it will pump the bags up so it remains the same height.

Just go shortened shocks, and stiffer springs - will cost you about $800 fitted. 250kgs on a 6x4 trailer is #### all, 3 fat ####s in the back weigh more than that!

I've checked out Air Ride and they say $2995 just for the kit and TSS say $4,000 for the kit but the TSS looks like a better quality kit.
I'll have Pedders do me a quote on the low fronts and rears with there pump up rear shock for the trailer without the inner bladder.
I went through the entire list for the VX and its goes on forever, I may even get a quote on the DBA standard slotted rotor's and pads all round to.
Thanks for the suggestions and who else other than Pedders do suspension and brake work.

Had the Acclaim fitted with 4 low shocks, low springs, 2 rear pump up air bladders that go inside the rear coils for when towing is required and new front rubbers and important bits along with new rotors and disc pads for $2700.
Now with the 16'' VE Steelies powder coated signal red and fake whitewalls were ready for the Cooly Rocks On festival ( ex Wintersun )

I tow my 700kg trailer, thats with out a load, and yes it is that heavy, just got it weighed for rego, and i dont have any bag assist, not sure what height im running, but its my hsv senator signature and i have monroe gt shocks. not worth wasting heaps of money for the occasional tow.
Towed 2.5tonned on my mates vr wagon with 456000kms, leaks from everything you can put oil or water in and we did 2000kms with nt troubles, no after market air bags or anything.

$2700 is alot :O! I got my whole setup of shortened shocks/springs and fit them myself for $600. Ebay sells brand new sets. I mean if you got someone to fit them it'd be $1000. No idea why they would change $1700 for something that probably wont even help with towing anyway, I can tow fine on mine and mine is (measured yesterday) 78mm from the ground in the rear.

If asking for better springs shocks etc. ask for lovells + KYB shocks. i haven't found better than this combination in all honesty, I'm finding the ride magic for all conditions. And I've had kings pedders Shelby -factory springs, pedders monroe - factory shocks, and nothing comes close to comfort and handling of them.

When mine was done i paid about 2k all up. got 4 SL lovells, 4 KYB Short shocks. Did the 4 point camber kit. Had my mushrooms (Strut top bushes) replaced, and rear chassis bushes. Some extra thing si did at home for next to nothing over $100. front Chassis bushes. and nolathan links.

Pedders said pump up shocks arent suitable for towing because of where they are mounted but this airbag set up was only $400.00 extra with the plumbing and I had them mount the valves on the tow bar tongue mounting plate since the rear bumper is plastic..
We also had the 2 strut top bearing supports renewed along with the stabilizer bar link thingies, 2 new power steering boots, 2 new front damper bushes, 4 new standard DBA groved rotors, new pads, 2 new front hubs fitted, rear hand brake shoes, the hand brake adjusted and a wheel balance. We are extremly happy with the costs and the workmanship is A1.
    Cheers Mary
