How do you do a service on your brakes? You either replace them or you don't, it is not a service, it is either an inspection or an R & R.

I have to agree with naaf, you either replace them or you dont . Can't get much more simple than that.

Get a workshop manual and follow the instructions and pics in it...Its the best way,you know the jobs done 100% right then...These manuals pay for themselves pretty much the first time you use them fo fix or repair something.....

I have to disagree with both of you. He wants to service the brakes not simply exchange brake pads. Maybe he wants to know about checking lines, tensioning handbrakes, flushing, draining and bleeding brake lines etc.

You evidently know more than us, help the man out!

Rotors will last alot longer than the pads will. Due to the material they're made of. This ofcourse depends on how you drive.

Fluid needs changing approximatly every 24 months because it goes Hydroscopic from moisture in the atmosphere and thus reduces it's capability.

Replace only what is required, pads or discs then drive gently until the new surfaces conform to each other before bedding properly. Remove, clean and lube the caliper slides when changing pads. Change brake fluid on a time basis independently of pads or discs.

You dont have to do the rotors everytime you do the pads, What else do you want to know thats it right there.

Actually, bedding in the brakes is making the surfaces conform to each other. Bedding them in requires some pretty intense braking.

Take the car up to ~60km/h, brake HARD without locking the wheels up down to about 10km/h, repeat 4 or 5 times until you can really smell the brakes, then drive around for 5 or so minutes with as little braking as possible to let them cool down. Brakes bedded in.

Sure, part of the process is getting the pad and disc surfaces to conform but bedding proper is about the transfer of pad material onto the disc and a heat processing in the pad near to the disc surface and/or the disc surface. The StopTech company has a good explanation, written by Carroll Smith, on it's website.
