I quite often see posts where people are asking about what BCM will work with what accessories.
This prompted me to try a couple simple experiments that yielded some unexpected results.
Firstly I fitted a BCM Low and matching ECM from a 2000 Acclaim to a 1998 Calais, Suprise,
Everything worked fine.
I then fitted a BCM and matching ECM from a 1998 VT Acclaim to the Calais and
Confusion,
Again everything worked except the down function on the drivers power window..How ever it could be wound down by tripping the relay at the fuse box. The up function worked fine..
Only two trials, (I only had 3 VT's to play with), and it was beginning to appear as though some of BCM's for the VT's were put together a bit willy nilly, especially after learning of instances where nothing or only some things worked when a BCM low used in the wrong situation and that there was no consistancy with faults that occurred.
Could it be possible that mid and high BCM.s that didnt run all functions on the Berlina's,Calais and Statesmen's, in some instances, were recycled and tagged low then fitted to VT Execs and Acclaims.'
Any experiences or theories related to BCM's would be appreciated.Who knows.., we may all learn some thing new
wonder if this is the same for VY.. because climate control on lower models would be cool..
(BCM control climate controls, yes?? )
The BCM does..It controls eveything..even the interior lights...You can only try..If it doesnt work you will have to get a BCM high,MID from the wreckers..you will also have to get the matching Engine management computer and matching key head. Also take note, if possible, of the vin no of the veridical they come from. This information will be useful if you ever loose all your keys
i cant work out how to get at the bcm. is it behing the fuses relays? do i get to it through the fuse panel, or do i need to remove the speedo cluster or something?
Remove the panel above the pedals and then working under the right hand side of the dashboard, push the bottom of the BCM towards the front of the vehicle to release it from the lower retaining clips. Pull the BCM down and release it from the upper retaining brackets. Partially withdraw the BCM and disconnect the wiring connectors and withdraw it from the vehicle.
This information is from my Gregory's manual, I recommend you get one to help you with future problems, like the window regulator you mentioned in another thread.
MY RIDE
I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
thanks for that. im not being cheap not having a gregories. i actually bought an elleries version, which in previous times ive found more informative than a gregories. its more expensive than the gregories too, but unfortunately in the case of the vt commodore edition, the elleries is completely pox. it deosnt even tell me how to do the regulator etc. and in most cases, leaves out important steps or only briefly describes stuff. its soo shit. im tempted to buy a gregories and burn this elleries piece of crap.
thanks again anyway accestensil. u r a great help
