hi to all need help my 98 vt calais suddenly the batt/alternator light has come on at all speeds
the onboard computer for the volts reads 11.2 to 11.3 even when i rev the motor so is my alternator shot
it could just be the regulator in the alt remove the altanator then remove the screws thathold the reg on if the carbon brushes are worn down get a reg and try that first they are a third of the price of a alt
Or if you are a bit handy with the soldering iron, simply get 2 new brushes to suit and replace the worn ones. Repco or any auto electrician should have them for a few bucks.
No need to remove the alternator to access the regulator is there ?

If its a V6 though its as easy as piss to get to. I can have my alternator off in a couple of minutes.
If it is an Ecotec, just remove the support bar that goes from the top of the alternator to the head, remove the bottom-left bolt, and just swing the alternator up.
