I broke down on the roadside the other day. Called NRMA Road Service and the NRMA guy told me my fuel pump was stuffed and needed replacing. They arranged for my car to be towed home. I bought a new fuel pump and replaced the old one.
When I went to start the car the new pump failed, was not working at all. So I checked the fuse and it was blown, I replaced it and the new pump worked. I had already called NRMA and they were coming out to check the car so I waited until he arrived to let him know I got the car started and I had a whinge about the last guy who had me towed instead of replacing my blown fuse.
When NRMA arrived I asked him to check the old fuel pump, he powered it up and it worked. I told him that his colleague didn't check the fuse in the first instance and that's all it needed to work. I didn't check the fuse either but that day, I did ask the Road Service guy if it could have been a blown fuse, he said no the fuel pump is stuffed and needs to be replaced, and he was getting paid to do his job properly so he should have checked the fuse for me.
NOW for the problem:
The NEW replacement pump is a GOSS GE159 and there are 2 white hoses inside the pump, ONE of the white hoses fell off. NRMA Road Service noticed the fuel was not getting to the fuel filter and was just picking up in the tank and coming out where the hose should be connected instead of coming out of the pump via the external hose to the filter.
I removed the tank and pushed the hose on firmly, put it all back together again and went to start the car (with approx 10L petrol in the tank) The hose has come off AGAIN, so I am just about to pull the New fuel pump out and put my old one back in.
COULD it be possible that I have some fuel pressure problem causing the hose to fall off the pump inside the tank?
TIA
