Default RPMs of V6 engine at high speed

I have a friend who was involved in a crash and the police are saying he was doing over 160 kilometres an hour. I don't think his car can do it. He only has a V6 VT model Commodore running on LPG. Has anyone ever had a stock VT Commodore up to 160 kilometres an hour. Can you say what your revs were at the time and how long it took you to get up to that speed - did you require a long straight run up?

    Thanks.

It's possible to do 160 in a v6 vt. I can do easily 160 in my VS commodore V6

Your average 4cyl car easily does 160, a VT commodore is more then cable of reaching 200, cops aren't stupid if they assume he was going that quick he obviously wasnt obeying the speed limit.

Haha, I've hit 160 in both my stock VP and stock VS. VT would do it easy.

    Wouldn't do 160kph... You'd hit a hektik tree at about 136kmh

Having never been at that speed, I can only give second hand information, sorry but hopefully some of it helps.
I know a guy with a Getz who said it made 180kph on a freeway, so if this is true, VT would do it easy mine does about 1700rpm at 90kph in 4th. And I don't think you'd need much distance Holden state that a VT will do:
    0 - 100 km/h 9.1 seconds (V6) ; Standing 400 metres 16.3 seconds (V6).
But yes, I'd think it'd be damn easy to get it that fast, but completely irresponsible on a public road- your mates lucky he's not a statistic.

top ive hit in my v6 vt is 237, using a gps for the last 17 ks past the 220 mark, it would hit 160 easy as anything, can easily hit 160 if not paying attention to speedo just giving it a boot full to overtake someone. tell him to accept whats coming to him in way of fines /court fees and learn from it

    nullabor?

also you cant be serious about it just racing off to 160 without knowing, unless fitted with a cop chip.

That's one way to lose the coppers, go back to 1955 where all you'll get is a "slow down next time"...

Guessing it wasn't a gentle overtake on 3 laned motorway? But yeah, these cars have some kick to them- though I've never been graced by a V8.

where i live there is no such thing as a gentle overtake, the main road here has the highest death toll in SA reason being it has F-all overtaking spots, so when the opportunity comes up you have to go for it

I think you need to start paying a LITTLE BIT more attention if you're getting up to 160 without noticing. What diff ratio are you running?

Ahh, I see. Yeah know the feeling, the only road to my town is full of blind corners, crests and general poor road condition. 9 times out of 10, you just don't bother, 5mins quicker home ain't worth my life.

    Victor to Adelaide?

Its not too bad after Compass but most people sit on 80 and slow down to 60 for corners, I do 100 the whole way apart from a couple of bends.

I used to take the ring road from one side of Victor to the other but lately in the last few years everyone is doing 60-80 there as well, it used to be faster but a longer distance, now if there is any cars (or usually slow trucks) its faster to drive through town, following everyone doing 50 in a 60 zone.

I guess thats what we get for living in a town where all the oldies come to retire.

yeah 2DIE i dont get it, in a 50zone they will do 30-40, in a 60zone its 40, in the 80 zone they do 60, and in a 100 they do 80, well if they arnt afraid to get upto 80 why not do the speed limit in the lower zones, i swear half of them here cant even see the end of the bonnet, i nearly get T-Boned everyday to work and half the time you would swear they are looking straight at you when they do it, i think a driver who isnt confident, and cant see is more of a danger then anything, which is what this town is full of
