Default vu ute, some questions re lpg and uhf mounting

alrighty ill get straight into it, i recently purchased a vu ute pics in the show off your ride section and now i have some questions.

    lpg:

where can i mount the tank? i really dont want it in the tray or else with my tool box and swag etc there will be absolutely no room for anything else.

performance? i used to have a vs and i occasionally had problems with back firing, wasnt really at any certain time either could be when taking off, cruising or slowing down. will i have the same problem with this? (3.8 ecotec engine)

    uhf:

i have worked out where i want to mount it. now is the question of where to put the antenna.

i dont want it out side bouncing around, the radio antenna is enough as it is. i was thinking of having a small antenna on a magnetic mount underneath the passenger seat for whilst im just driving and then if i wanted better range for road trips with mates or anything i could just wack it on the roof.

will this work? i have heard that antennas dont work when they are touching anything, is this true? (it will just be a metal wire antenna at the moment)

UHF antenna's and range will depend on the type of antenna used, but rule of thumb is line of sight. If it is under your seat, it will have about the same range as a handheld = bugger all.

There are new windscreen mount antennas out now that look the same as a phone aerial, my boss has one on his Sahara, range is pretty good and it's not obtrusive at all. They can be changed over as well as they have a threaded base.

With the tank, you can put it under the rear but the spare will have to go in the tray.

I have a square transparent stick on antenna for my UHF - it lives on the back window, which isn't very good if you have tinted windows as the metal in the tint affects reception. Mine works great, and I don't look like a tool with a big aerial.
