High RPM/ kicking into gear problem

Hey guys, today i had a problem while driving.
First symptom was
-higher rpm when throttle wasn't touched. I would roll a lot faster than normal, speed would slowly increase.
When at traffic lights car would be a lot harder to stop, more force on breaks.
-Taking off, gear would kick into place.
Placing car intro Park or neutral caused the rpms to surge to 3 grand.

Engine light had popped on. What i found weird was that after light clicked on, car behaved normal. I was thinking its something to do with the whole air thing.

I did clean and oil my air filter 3 days ago..

Any help would be appreciated.

Iv found on a similar thread that i can check codes which i will try an do soon

mine does it every now and again, normaly after it pops coz the stubby holder isnt covering the holes its making a bit more power. mabe your filters playing up
