hey guys im about to change my exhaust, its cat back n i can see the bolts r spring loaded, is there anything that i should do to prevent making life harder with it?? does it need the spring? whats the spring for?? if this has been covered before can someone pls direct me in the right direction pls
The springs are required to keep constant pressure on the exhaust joint so it does not leak. This may be too much info but:
On V6 engined models, a single, three way catalytic converter forms a welded junction point for each of the engine pipes. A brace is welded
to both engine pipes and a flanged joint and sealing ring is used at the rear of the catalytic converter, secured to the intermediate exhaust
pipe by two spring loaded bolts. The intermediate tail pipe has a U-bolt clamped, slip joint, located behind the rear axle and before the rear
muffler.
Hope this helps
edit: The reason for the spring loaded bolts, apart from sealing, is to accomodate flex in the exhaust system so stress fractures do not occur.

How would I go at removing it n doing it home?

easy to remove, the bolts dont have thread all the way along them, so just undo it, then when your putting new exhaust on, do the bolts up as tight as they will go (till thread runs out) then the springs keep it tight, very simple job done it many times
All is good Nd done I brought a red back exhaust off eBay n it sounds sexy, well compared to stock anyway
