We have a larger framed mate who has just had the Lap Band fitted and we want to suprise him with a new seat for his VX S2 Acliam V6 sedan but all the seats weve already seen are also stuffed from normal wear and tear so I'm wondering what other model Commodore seat would fit the VX.

anything from vt-vz seats will fit in a vx, 99% sure.
however, i'm not sure if you have to change the rails on the vy/vz seats to fit.
good on yas!~ depending where you are you could try a wreckers hotline (qld ABC wreckers)
and they will source the correct ones for you, or retrim them (get a qoute on second hand ones)
i've never tried to fit other models to a vx so unsure on what else might fit
vy to vt needs rails been there scrapped that got buckets 400 $ set![]()
Thanks guys I'll try ABC and maybe other Commodore wreckers.
when you do find your seat remember to disconnect the battery before you do the swap to eliminate the risk of having to take the car to the dealer to have air bag alarm reset.(been there)
I can get a left seat in perfect condition so I'm wondering can it be unbolted from the frame and used on the right side.
check if the car has side impact airbags, most VX acclaims do i think.
We now have a near new seat from a wrecked 80,000 klm vehicle and will fit the seat while Fred is away for work next week as I sold him the Commodore and I still have a remote but not the key so we'll surprise hime when he returns. He has also lost 19kgs and has 50 to go.
Side airbags are standard fitment in a VX acclaim so the seat you get has to have a side airbag. You can't use a passenger seat as the airbag will be on the wrong side and so will the seatbelt buckle and adjuster knobs. I hope you got a VX acclaim seat so the trims will match.

I can't see where the air bags are in our VX and I can't see where they are on his either, show us via this picture where the air bags are located.

The airbag is located in the bolster on the side of the seat back, immediately in front of and just above the knob used to adjust the lumbar support. It isn't visible because the seat is designed so that the airbag is completely concealed, for a neat appearance. Sorry, but I don't know how to edit the picture to illustrate it more clearly.
I think it is possible to swap the left and right hand seats over, but you will need to do a fair bit of swapping of parts. I think the factory used the same basic seat cushion and backrest frames for both sides, and simply fitted left or right hand components as required.
The rails will interchange, so that takes care of the seat belt and seat mountings. As far as changing other parts over, I think the only parts that differ from left or right are the external trim pieces like the plastic covers. If you strip the new seat down, I think you might find that the upholstery for the seat cushion is already perforated to suit left or right hand fitment, which means the holes to allow the plastic trims to clip and screw on will already be there. The holes that aren't used are covered by the plastic, or concealed once the seat is fitted. I could be wrong, but even if I am, it would be simple enough to cut the holes out carefully to fit the plastic trims from the driver's seat to the passenger's seat.
The only other things to worry about are the airbag and the lumbar support. I know the lumbar support can be unbolted and reversed as I've done it myself when replacing a backrest that had a cracked frame, and I'm also pretty sure that the mounting points for the airbag are fitted on both sides of the seat backs, so they can be used on either side of the car. The airbags are probably made in left and right hand fitments, so you will need to fit the airbag from the old seat.
If this works out, let us know how it went.
No ned as we now have a right seat from a VX Monaro that was written off with 80,000 klmns on the clock and the seats are like new $400.00
