high there i am wondering if i could put my 5l from my vtss wich is no longer on the road thanks to the guy than ran a stop sign in his monster of a patrol,
i have a vx commy with a blown motor so i was just wondering if it would be hard to trade engine, box.diff and so on into the vx, and what would i have to change if i needed to.
i miss my vtss
cheers
So far as I know, you can't put an older engine into a newer car. In that you could put the VX engine in the VT but you can't put the VT engine in the VX. Legal issue. Mechanical, I suppose it would be possible with a bit of work.

yeah i heard this to,hmm well if so i might have to find a vt,lol, but still need to know what has to be done for the conversion
Make sure its a VT S1 since the S2 would have the same legal issue as the VX (I assume).
lol.. you can if you really want too.... But if ure into the whole legal thing then yes you cannot.. i dont recommend doing it.. but hey.. after all i dont know why u would want a 5 ltr in a vx![]()

sounds like a heap of stuffing around
and think about how many people will want a 5.0 VX when you want to sell...
bottom line is its illegal. you cant put an older engine into a newer car.
has tonnes, and no, i never said dont do it, i said in responce to his question can he put a 5l in his VX it is illegal, never said dont do it.
Most illegal mods don't have engine numbers!
thats the other thing, i can wind my coilovers up, its much harder to pull out a 5l.
In all the previous, I saw no directions re changing the motor and box. It's a complete transplant. Computer, harness and engine bay wiring, airbox, trans mount and I am not sure that you don't need the front K-frame but I was under mine yesterday and it looks as though the engine mounts might fit if you remove the welded V6 engine mount bracket off the K-frame and weld V8 ones on. This is not a set of directions to change the engine, just a list of most of what has to be done. Personally, I would rather spend a grand on Mace improvements and have a V6 that puts out as much or more grunt than the 5L V8. Cam, plenum spacer, 70mm throttle body and clean/service inlet system. Selling your V8 would get you more than $1000 to do it with. SS V8 has to be worth $1500 most days of the week and the V8 trans another $300-$500 or more? Better fuel economy, more power, less weight = go better. Just did a search of my Holden specs. Stock V6 147Kw Stock 5L V8 179Kw. Talk to Mace. Won't take a lot to get 190Kws.

VERY TRUE! lol, sorry should have mentioned it, you are exactly right.
Putting a V8 in your V6 will be a massive pain in the a**, it's not a simple swap at all, it's essentially a rebuild of your entire drivetrain. That said, still thinking about putting a V8 in my VT later onIt would be far easier and possibly cheaper to go buy a V8.

Don't do it mate, the Holden V8 is pretty pox in a VT when it's not modified, and given your V6 probably puts out just as much go, its really not worth it.
Sell the motor (VT roller cam motors go for quite a bit), sell the box, sell the interior there alone you have at least 3.5k assuming it's all in good nick... Buy another Ecotec, and slap some mace bits and you are good to go!
