    Default Raising VX SS.

Ok this thread is a bit unusual because most people here are only interested in lowering their commodores. But my vx ss is the standard ride height and its just to damn low. I'm sick of it bottoming out on small humps and bumps. I can't take it to the roof top car park at my local shopping centre because it bottoms out on every steel bump (i think they cover gaps in the concrete) they have there.
I don't know how anybody could stand having an even lower car. This is Australia where the roads are rough and crappy. Maybe if was Europe and we had excellent smooth roads I could understand.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if there are any spring/shocky options I could get that would give an extra inch of clearance without significantly affecting handling(even if it does significantly affect handling I'm not too fussed. I drive like a granny anyway).
I have heard of a police pack sort of setup that was firmer, but no lower. I wonder if there is something similar only a little bit higher?
    Cheers

I could be wrong but maybe the SS have slightly lower suspension than the standard Commodore. Someone else will know for sure.

Thats correct, the SS and S came out with FE2 suspension which is a bit lower than other models.

So if I change it for standard commodore suspension I should end up with a reasonable ride height? I might have to go and have a chat to the boys and girls at Fulcrum.

Your SS will have Fe2 suspension, which is far lower and firmer then standard springs, just a matter of swapping out your springs with standard executive items, should rise it an inch or 2.

either your suspension has sagged a shit load, or your hitting speed humps as way too fast

stock height on my calais i had no issues on speed humps and that was going over huge ####ers that are about 1m long and 200mm high, and that was with fairly rooted shocks/springs to begin with.

nolathane do a 5-15mm spacer iirc to raise it just a bit more.

There are some savage speeds humps out there, theres one in wagga that before they cut it in half was less then an inch away from hitting the exhaust on our old VP wagon (std height), was pretty funny there was always peoples mudflaps in the gutter after being ripped off.

I very rarely scrape anywhere on SSL's even speed bumps aren't really an issue.

^^^ as above, i have 20s and SSL's and i never scrape on anything, speedhumps, driveways, etc.
IIRC king spring make springs that raise commodores 15-30mm.

edit: our speedhumps over west must be a different ballgame

If it isnt tuckin, it must be suckin

I have had my VX SS from new, I have never had any major issues with clearance, I have done several trips with a full load of 5 people, luggage and full tank and never bottomed out. The only thing that bugs me a bit is scaping the underneath of the front spoiler when parking nose in to the kerb at shopping centres.
Maybe you should measure your height and compare to some stock cars on here, maybe your springs have sagged a bit.

i've got FE2 on my VX it's a firm ride and doesn't bounce

sounds like your shockers are worn if it's dropping and hitting speed humps

Shocks dont determine ride height, springs do.

If you think the roads are all nice and smooth in Europe then you ain't been to Europe lol Australia has FANTASTIC roads! I recommend coilovers there cheap as these days and u can raise or lower your car to suit yourself. A jacked up SS wouldn't be pretty though

mate maybe your car is already lowered, you shouldnt be scraping on bumps and speed humps with a standard ride height. Standard is really high theres no way you could bottom out on anything unless your going WAY too fast

And i know coz i have a VX SS with the standard ride height.
