    Default Seperated strut welds

Hi I live in the Penrith NSW area and was wondering if anyone could recommend a business anywhere in Sydney metro area who could weld back both my strut towers back to my frame as they have cracked and pulled apart (approx 1 to 2mm) at all the weld points.
    It is a 2000 VT 5.7ltr.
    Cheers Mark.

My brother had that happen to his VT. I'll ask him where he got his fixed. He's in Sydney as well.

I'm pretty sure those aren't welds either - its some sort of glue/bonding.

Funny thing ....I was at Pedders and they told me to go a good panel beater and get welded properly by them ???????????
Then I rang a welder out of the yellow pages and he told me to go to Wholesale Suspensions @ Penrith as they will weld them.
Whats the deal with pedders ?????? they should know there stuff as the Franchise owner viewed and assessed the struts himself.

Ok then if it is some bonding glue stuff could I use some paint-able silicone type of product and spray the car color to match the engine bay??

And thank you for you input guys it is very much appreciated.

the stuff they use is sikaflex, its black in colour and comes in a silicone tube. u can buy it at repco/autobarn/supercheap for about $9-11. from what ive been told when my mate had to get it done was that you needed to grind back the whole area - mash the gap back to .5mm if not closer and then sikaflex it. if i were you id get a strut brace, i think you can still buy the stock holden ones for about $60 over the counter but i dont think they have adjustment into them which would help you push the towers back into the corner a bit i guess.

good luck with your quest.... if i were you id just bog up the crack with touch up paint when selling lol

If your going to do it go to a panel shop and get it done properly as this needs to go on a car o liner to make sure everything lines up.

I've just been through this myself on my VX i hit a massive pothole on the highway and pulled both strut towers out of alignment as you have done the left hand side was the worse as it had cracks going all the way back to the firewall. The car drove and handled like shit, i took the car to a panel shop here in mackay and got it all fixed up properly they put it on a car o liner and have now welded the strut towers in

I would honestly get this kinda thing fixed professionally, as above mentioned it could be something you could claim on your insurance. Also would think its not cheap to fix. Pannel beaters will put you on the right track

yeah get it done properly. Even though it was originally bonded I'm sure a good suspension shop can weld/glue it back to better than original.
It is nothing they haven't seen before, so just give them a call and they should be able to quote a price over the phone for you. Better a real quote than us guessing.
