bought a vt exec wagon with a 2004 gearbox, exchange torque convertor and new radiator just replaced 10,000kms ago.
didnt notice when test driving it but when i got it home it was making this noise that sounded like a slight gurling sound/ bubbling mixed with a slight knock or tickwhen in drive but idling. dropped into reverse and still dd it.. neautral t was smooth as.
threw a screw driver on all pulleys, idler pulley near water pump was a lil sus so changed it with a new one.. noise still there.. just for measure changed fan belt to incase other was streched. temp stays same revs seem fine only once i heard a slight whistle noise when driving.
basically it only makes noise sometimes but not when engines cold only after i drive it for 10 mns. noise is gone as soon as i accerlarate. its also louder in cabn then sticking your head in the engne bay :/ got me stumped i also threw 2 extra brake line clips on from my other vt wagon no difference
if it comes and goes could it be timing chain? car has 342 000km but its got receipts for change over of chain at 290,000km and it oesnt knock on cold start up.
any help appreciated =)
should also mention once car heats up an brakes been used a bit the actual brake pedal squeaks on use both pushing in and on release.and gets touchy.. since the gurgling sound only happens on brake being applied could i be looking at bubbles in brake system?
Gurgling noises are usually due to air in the cooling system. Bleeding the system should fix it.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.
Cheers ill give it ago tommorow, do you know if its air bubbles would it be intermitten or constant?
As in the noise .. Sorry
What about if you get coolant smell through the air vents occasionally, recon the heat exchanger is leaking?....Silly question how would you bleed the coolant system?
Coolant smell through the vents could be a leaking heater core.
To bleed the system, get the engine up to normal operating temperature and then with the engine running, undo the bleeding screw on the thermostat housing to release any air. When all the air escapes and only coolant comes out, tighten the screw. Repeat a few times to make sure all the air is out. Be careful not to burn yourself.

THanks again, you have been a fountain of info.
Really appreciated.
Hey mate,
The previous poster seems to know his shit. I was having the same noises, without the smells.
My heater was also refusing to blow hot. Turns out I had done a water pump. This could be your issue, or else, it could also be air in the system. I had a new water pump, a system bleed and then refilled the coolant and it was all good.
mine actually turned from a what i couldnt determine as a gurgle/knock or bubble from in engine bay an in cabin to a full blown knock. We've today found out its most likely the drive plate/ flex plate cracking to peices if it hasnt already. it has a 2003 reco gearbox hubby fitted along with an exchange converter so go figure. but the bubbling was likly my waterpump as it shat itself yesterday an we spent last night throwing a new one on it by torch light an after snapping to distorted bolts. thanks for ur help though![]()
