    Default 98 VT Wagon vibrations

Recently got back from a big roard trip and the car has been vibrating. First Noticed between 90km/hr to 110, pulled the drive shaft out and the uni joints ar solid and the middle bearing seems to roll alright. then driving around a bit more and the car seems to vibrate even when Idling.

What area's would I want to look at?

Get them checked out before you replace them because without seeing the car my reply was only a suggestion of what the problem might be. It probably is a worn mount or two but then again it might not be.

I had a look last night and there are small cracks around the engine mounts and the oil pan sits just below the cross frame. Is there anything else I might want to check, are there any tests i could do my self? I read one about jacking the engine a little to see how they look.

Jacking the engine up a little is the method I use. Put a thick piece of wood between the sump and jack and then jack it up about half and inch and then look at the mounts, any damage should be obvious.

I jacked the engine up a bit more than 1/2 an inch, the mounts seem to be solid (they are the black rubber ones) there was only surface cracks from the mud and crap on them, I reved the engine a bit and it rocks a little but only a few mm to a centermeter at most when reving, so the problem may lie with the engine it'self vibrating. I am thinking of looking at changing the ol plugs and leads to start with , one lead i noticed had cracking of the insulation near the plug tip connection when I was changing the exhaust extractor gaskt.

Nah she just whinges when the car is not responding how she wants it to and if something breaks she recons it is because I touched it, then bawks at the cost of getting it fixed at mechanics. Oh she want s new car of course but forgets that a couple of hungy here and there is not as much as a car that is depreciating a couple of thousand a year. (Still will get a newish car in the next few years cause the creature comforts are worth it.)

If the engine mounts are ok, and they are not sagging (sump touching the crossmember) Check you the transmission mount. Sometimes they break and cause vibration too.

How would I go about checking that out? how much do they cost to replace? Oh and how hard would it be? Just a few Q's.
